I drew a tag this year and was wondering if any past tag holders would share some information on this unit. I have never been to the Henry Mountains any help would be great on where to start scouting. I plan on making a couple trips down there this summer.
Thanks

You have arguably the best tag in the world. Scour the unit and look over as many bucks as you can. What you do not want to do is shoot the first 185 buck that steps into view. Get a feel for the top end bucks by looking them over and learning to judge antlers. Wish I was in your shoes...you're in for the hunt of a lifetime.

Congratulations! I had this tag in 2007, also drew with 11 points. My buck scored 202" gross. Best hunt ever. I agree it is easy to get mesmerized by all the 180" bucks that hang out close to the road. Just like anywhere the further you get off the beaten path, the bigger the bucks are likely to be. If you want, send me a PM and I can get more specific.

Can anyone chime in on the management hunt? We picked one of them up this year in the draw and any info is appreciated.

Thanks

You're also in for a great time. The management hunt will put you into the beginning of the rut. The hardest part will be passing up beautiful 4x4 bucks standing near the road looking at you. Take a video camera because you will be able to film some hogs. There are some stud 3x4's and 3x3's on the Henry Mountains that are in their prime. Or you could get lucky and find that 3 x many points buck. Again, don't get in a hurry to make a kill and go down early enough to look over a lot of deer prior to the hunt start. This is a far better management hunt then the Paunsy. Good luck on your hunt!
