Some pics I took many years ago. These incredible mounts were part of Don Shaufler's Rocky Mt. Antler Museum exhibit at the time.

That dropper buck is just plain sweet looking, and that bottom buck is a beast. Thanks for showing em.

Incredible. I cant even imagine what the feeling would be like to find one of those studs and pull the trigger.

Great pics; thanks for posting them. I like the fact that one of the bucks was killed by Ted Riggs, who is arguably the greatest mule deer hunter of all time. I always name my pickups after a great hunter or something to do with mule deer. My current pickup is Ted Riggs.

That last one has the first whale tails I've ever seen. Must have been some cross breeding with an elk!!!!

It's interesting how people like some racks more than others. Of these non-typicals that are all monsters...which do you like best? I choose the first. Those double droppers do it for me.

Out of those I'd have to go with the middle buck. Big boxy frame, big cheaters, mass, huge droptine...and not to mention its from NV. #2 in the state and nets 299 1/8

i like mass so i would say the last one but i cant say i wouldnt get the fever if any one of them stepped out!!!!!

Hey EL Dorado, did you see Don's display at the Reno MDF show about 12 or 13 years ago? Man, those were some giants.

Thanks

The pics in question were taken at a hunting expo in SLC sometime around 1994. Needless to say that I was very impressed with Schaufler's collection.

Don sold his collection to Cabelas for 6.25 million !!!!! Don at the time had the most amazing collection . He still to this day owns world record non typical !!! Has anyone ever come across Don Schauflers calendar collection . At the time when he still had his collection , Don put together a calander each year for 4 consecutive years using his mule deer collection , 48 diffrent legendary muleys .

I fortunately own a card collection of all of the incredible mounts that he once owned and were part of his renowned Rocky Mt. Antler Museum exhibit. I bought the entire series sometime around 1994 and are in mint condition still after 17 years.

Here's one example. This card has Ted Rigg's incredible buck on the front with the pertinent info. of the buck on the back.

I've got that same set of big buck cards too Eldorado.

I spent time with Don Schauffler some years back just after he sold the bulk of his collection.
He still has mule deer antlers with proportions that most cannot even comprehend.

I got to hold the World Record Non typical that he paid a quarter million for.

(I was holding on VERY tightly)

Several other 300" bucks at his place as well...

Still there was wayyyyyy too many big racks to fully soak in.
His collections are mind boggling.

Holding the WR nontypical rack must have been awesome. Those other racks are equally mind boggling. That must have been a great day for you HH. Thanks for sharing.

THE BUCK ON THE FAR RIGHT IS ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITES !!! IT SCORES WHAT, 284' ? I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO GET THE CARDS COLLECTION AS WELL , ALL IN MEANT CONDITION STILL TO THIS DAY ..... IF I CAN FIGURE OUT HOW TOO POSTE PICS HERE I CAN LOAD UP A FEW PICS OF THE CALLENDARS HE CREATED FOR FOUR YEARS .

LAST EDITED ON Jun-22-11 AT 10:20PM (MST)[p]Don came out to my house jn nor. cal. years ago we spent two days going through boxes of deer stories and pictures that my old deer hunting buddy had. We got the names of several of these hunters, Don then proceeded to call a lot of them, he bought the Avery buck from one of these calls from my house. Don stayed at my house for a few days and told me that as much as he loved collecting big bucks, his favorite thing to do was to bass fish. Don had me go look at and score many deer for him before he would try to buy them. We joined the mule deer foundation together as life members a long time ago.Roger Selner put those card pictures together for Don, he came to my house and took several pictures for the card series. Don and Roger than a had a falling out and Selner went to work with the Eastmans.
