Im in a bit of hot water with the wife. I put her in for rifle instead of archery. Well she didnt draw and now she is pizzed off at me. So my question to you guys and gals is can I take her on the northern unit and have her have a chance at a buck? I have never hunted it so we will be new to the area. I know there will be lots of people and very few deer but, I need to take her and the kiddos out some where. So if you guys have a good starting point you can share, anything will help. I have looked on google earth and found some good looking areas to try. Thanks in advance.

we did the same thing one year and ended up killing two smaller 4x4 just off the roads in weaber canyon. just be careful of private property and good luck.

Uintahs are always a option?? Yes there will be a shiz load of people I can tell you that right now but if you wanted to walk a couple of miles you could probably get away from most.

Did you let the wife know that the archery tag was not even a given this year with more applicants than there were tags? That might cool her off a bit but not much probably. Just a word of advice, I would plan on being prepared to buy your tag(s) right at 7am next Wednesday (the 27th). There were not many leftovers and they are sure to go quick. If you get the tag let us know. I can point you in a few directions. You will be dealing with plenty of other hunters if you are going to be hunting public land. Should be able to see some deer though also. Some info from the UDWR website:

If you are camping with the family, Logan Canyon or Hardware Ranch would be fun. North slope of the Uintah would be fun also. Unfortunately, I can't think of a good place up north to hunt and family camp. A small 4 point off the road up Weber Canyon sounds like a gift; but I've never hunted there.

My advise is to start scouting now. My dad and I got fed up with our elk hunting spot about 8 years ago when the crowds got thick. It got to where a bull elk could not weave his way through the pumkin patch without getting drilled by lead. So we left. We jumped in dads truck, took a week road trip, scouted different areas, found places with good sign, even saw some good public land bulls. Out of all the areas we were successful inseeing elk in, we chose a particular area because of the thick, rough terrain. It has proven to be the best decision we have ever made in our hunting carreers. Out of those eight years, dad and I have pulled out seven bulls. The year we did not get one was the year I missed a nice five point. Rather than just ask strangers to give you areas to look at, you should just come up and do your own scouting to find out what type of terrain you want to hunt and you will find the deer.

No need to be a smart azz travis. Thats what we plan on doing. Just asking so we dont get into someones private property. It doesn't hurt to ask, I thought.

Hey bloody, I never asked for someone to give me a spot. Just to point us into the right direction to start. We will also do some scouting before hand so you dont have to worry about that.

If I could help you out I would in a heart beat. I live in southern ut. So you ever draw a tag her I'm sure I could help youi out. Don't let Travis get under your skin, he thinks he is gods gift, and an all time hunter, who would never ask for help.
