I snapped this pic with rifle and tag in hand-what u think?

He looks to me like his points are not very long but he has great mass and is near 30" outside. I'd bet that he was an older buck, grandpa type. Take em! He's a for sure shooter!!

Neat buck, kill him.

Sit tall in the saddle, hold your head up high, keep your eyes fixed to where the trail meets the sky...

LAST EDITED ON Jul-30-11 AT 08:09PM (MST)[p]His great width and mass more than makes up for his weak front forks. I wouldn't hesitate to drop the hammer on him. Thanks for sharing.

Are you nuts?! You had a rifle and tag and you shot him with a camera!?! Thanks for the adrenaline rush.

That buck is without a doubt a shooter. How close were you, and was your rifle loaded or just your camera (kidding)?
Sure he doesn't have long points, but his inside spread is 28-30 and his beams are super long. A truly unique buck that needs to be on your wall.
If you don't mind post a pic on this thread if the buck you ended up taking on that hunt.

Thanks for sharing

The picture is a little fuzzy but I LIKE HEAVY ANTLERS. If the "in person" is what I see here, he'd have come home with me.

Within the shadows, go quietly.

By no means am I a trophy hunter but this buck looks like it has no better than average backs and fronts. It has great mass and good width. If I had a tag and rifle in hand he would be dead due to a bullet in the neck! I have not come across any bucks that look that good. He's a stud!

Theres nothing to think about! Kill him! You could hunt and hunt for a great scoring buck or you get get a great buck with lots of "WOW FACTOR". This buck has tremendous WOW FACTOR! fatrooster.

I guess you did the right thing, I guess that is why guy's like you shoot booners and guy's like me shoot.....well.....ya know, not...booner's.

Looks like you made the right decision. I wouldn't have walked from the first one though. Beautiful buck you harvested!

You know what they say. You cant shoot a big one if you shoot a...well..big one sooner. That is a great buck you ended up shooting. I don't know if i would have the will power to pass that other one, but I wasn't there and I don't know how the hunting was and the details of the hunt, you were. Nice job.

from the photo looks like tons of mass, weak forks and good main beams..

everyhing makes up for the weak forks in my opinion on that buck. depending on where it is, what hunt, would decide whether to shoot or not.

No-that is not a current pic-I took it a couple years ago and yes that is Sonora. The big heavy wide one is actually a six on six and I called him the elk buck due to his mass and to this day he has never been seen again. I would have thought we could have turned him up again but nope!
