Picked up the SD card from one of my trail cams this eve and was surprised to see this 2 pnt with all this "stuff" growing on it. It appears the right eye is closed too and can't see. Never seen anything like this. Sorry the pics aren't the best because of the light. This is N. Utah.

Some cancerous growth..... IDK ??? All I know is that buck likely needs to be put down . I would call your local DWR officer on this one .

It's called cutaneous fibromas, commonly referred to as deer warts. Fibromas are benign tumors that are composed of fibrous or connective tissue and are tumors which involve the skin. They are caused by a virus specific to deer. The virus is thought to be transmitted by various biting insects.

Rarely do fibromas cause deer any problems......but occasionally the location of a large single or multiple clumps of fibromas can interfere with sight, eating, breathing, or even affect the ability of the deer to walk. They are limited to the skin and not in muscle tissue. They are typically indistinguishable after skinning the deer. No human infection from cutaneous fibromas has ever been reported or discovered. Most of the time it is safe to consume the meat of a deer as the tumors only involve the skin.

Dang. That's impressive; nice to have people here who know a lot of this stuff.

Within the shadows, go quietly.

I killed a deer in Northern Utah that had something similar. I just cut it off. The meat from the area was fine.

How long ago did you eat the meat from "that area"? Maybe you just didn't give it long enough for the second head to start growing from your shoulder blade???????:9

That just might be "donate meat" for me!

In 2008, I shot a moose that had these all over its body. We were told that it only affects the skin area also and does not cause harm to them or the meat. That is unless one pops out by its eye like that...
We ate/prepared the moose meat as I normally do and never had an issue.
I wouldn't be stressed over it...
