I hunted muley's for over 30 years and this year it has been very hard to find them. It was been hot and there is plenty to eat for these deer. Do yo think they are staying in the deep draws and deep creeks? We have had 3 bad winters and I know it has done been good for the deer. Anyone else having bad luck locating deer?

Regardless of the general area that you are hunting in , it's just a matter of putting forth the extra time (Preseason Scouting) in locating where the deer are at because there are deer and respectable deer for that matter on virtually every unit . They may not be in every draw or on top of every ridge but there are great bucks anywhere . The key is preseason scouting . I spend about 120 days out of the whole year on 13A and 13B (Arizona Strip) . As you may know there are giant bucks throughout both units , but they are not just anywhere . On certain water holes there are only Does frequenting that water , but 2 miles down the road or over the hill on another water hole there will be nothing but bucks on that water hole . Hence, hold onto the key w/ preseason scouting !!!! Good luck . Mike .

I agree with everything you have said. I just has been a hard year so far for me. I just can't seem to get in th eright area to see many bucks. I will keep looking and glassing and hope to find something. Thanks for the help.

I've been watching the same group of bucks for 3 weeks close to nebo. They don't move far and stay in the shade the whole time. Minute the sun hits them they move. Big bucks and small bucks. Over the opener we didn't see a single other hunter as we were pretty far from the roads. They haven't left the big bowl at all even with us hunting them. I think the problem is water, there's so much water everywhere and feed they don't have to move very much.

Just keep looking. There are deer everywhere I have scouted. Bucks, doe, fawns, seems like here, there and everywhere. Like was said before, it seems they are not needing to move as far and the grasses are 6' tall in some areas so a vantage point and glassing should help. Best of luck.
