Tagged out today...

Well I've been bowhunting my guts out nonstop all day every day since Saturday and I finally decided to end my hunt on a buck that I wasn't even considering preseason. His mass did him in, bases are WAY bigger then the bases on my 4x5 I killed back in 2008. I decided to sell my Alphamax and went back to instinctive hunting this year...no sight, peep, release, rangefinder, or anything else fancy...just a wire rest, some old 2216's tipped with 125 grain Montecs, and pure gut feeling

This morning I spotted a decent 4 point I was planning to ambush tonight so I decided to go check a bed out that I've found bucks in several times over the years. At 1:55pm I text tabbyhntr not to text me for a bit cuz I was in my socks on a stalk...I was at 40 yards at that point. I crept closer and closer til I was between 15 and 20 yards...I stared at him thru my Zen Rays for several minutes asking myself "am I really going to kill this thing??" Yup!! I drew my bow back, stood up, and I couldn't really see his body...so I took out his jugular which I've done to several other bucks over the years...jugular shots have never let me down!! He ran down out of sight and about 1 minute after I had shot, out runs that big ass split beam 3 point I hadn't seen since opening morning!! Oh well lol. Not a monster but here's my 2011 archery buck, done old school style ;-)

To make my hunting story a lil more interesting, and to show more blood...last Thursday I had to make a trip to the ER because I about cut the tip of my finger off. I was shooting some cheap broadheads and one of the blades broke off as I pulled an arrow out out of the 3D target. I thought it must have broke inside the foam so I kept shooting...few rounds later I winged one way to the right. When I pulled it out I put all my weight on my left hand to pull with the right...yup that effin blade had broke off hanging out the taget!! 9 stitches later...

It's the pinky any way, but would be irritating to shoot with on that hand.

Not since last September :-( a few weeks ago I got a short look at the biggest I've seen this year, he was for sure in the 190 range. Nothing else I've seen this year came even close to him...hopefully one day I'll see him again or happen upon his deadhead.

A little more info on him, I'm positive he's an older declining grandpa buck, teeth are extremely worn down and his body was flippin huge compared to any other bucks I've taken...I think I'm more excited about the size of his backstraps than I am about the velvet rack!!

Oh, in case anyone is wondering why I take jugular shots?? Because EVERYTIME their front feet hit the ground, so does a bunch of this stuff...makes for an easy track job ;-)
