So my wife just got the call a couple hours ago that someone had turned in the tag and she somehow was next in line for it. so i'm guessing she was pretty lucky in this? she is a non resident and only had 2 bonus points going into this years draw. so what do you guys think? is it worth it? i'm not worried about the bonus points its the $463.00 for the tag and the 40 hours of vacation i'll use for the hunt. I have a few friends that live in the area that kinda know where to start looking that time of the year but i havent spent hardly anytime there. I think she would be way happy with a decent mature buck. I'm really reaching out because its such short notice and i'm really torn as to what to do. any info would be greatly appreciated and i really hope i could return the favor someday!

If she were anywhere near max points, then thinking about not going is understandable. BUT 2 points, really? Call it a gift from the goddess of hunting. There will be plenty willing to help. What a great time.

Does she want to go? If so, do it!!! 40 hours of vacation, with the wife, hunting mule deer... How can you go wrong?

LAST EDITED ON Aug-31-11 AT 08:03AM (MST)[p]If you didn't thing that it would be worth it, why in the he!! would you put your wife in for the hunt? As a NR with only 2 points, you will not have another opportunity for a long time, on any unit.

I was thinking pay attention to 5:17 on the video.

My wife and I both drew for this hunt and I have been watching information and talking to friends who live there and also have been in the high country this year. They say that they have only seen half of the BIG management buck as from other years.

Take it for what it is worth. May be the weather or this may not be the hunt as seen in the past, only time and the weather will tell. This is such a migratory herd I'm waiting to see what develops, but don't believe those who say you will see management buck everywhere. Both my wife and I may turn our tags back at the last minute. Good management buck are getting fewer and fewer.

On second thought at my age and with no points, heck no, I'm not going to turn my tag back, even if it's just a RZR ride, but then again I'm not an out-of-stater. Good luck with your decision.

That is a sweet video you shared. My wife killed one of the bucks on that video on the Management hunt last year. It sure was fun to see him in the velvet. I am wondering if you would be interested in sharing other footage you might have of him. It is the 3x4 on the video at 5:58. This is the second of two shots we could see of him in your video. Thanks again!!

Browning, dude you take some sweet videos... As always, thanks for sharing em' with us!!!!

Ok video. More footage of the hunter and less deer would be good. Lol! Just kidding. Looks like fun times.

Hezzy, Highcountryfever has a good point but myself along with six others have been down there since AUG 17-Sept 1 and 20+ days of scouting and seen one management buck worth shooting. Was actually going to shoot it cause we were not seeing anything worth taking for a "Preimium Unit" If any one knows of the where abouts that the video was taken please let me know have been from one end of that unit to the other. Lots of 2 footers. Something to consider if you don't have someone watching a buck or area for you if the money is not there right now also. Good luck on whatever choice you make.

I don't know what to tell you dude! I do know the Pauns is a hell of a lot harder to hunt than people think. For that much cash you might do as well hunting the general areas around the Pauns... that way you shoot whatever you want.

By now the DWR would have required that you make a decision. Just curious whether you took the tag or walked away?
