So i posted a video a few days back of a buck my friend had been scouting and was asking score. I guessed him at 27-28" with a gross of 180-190. well i was a little off. this weekend he went up and was tag in hand. Stalked the buck, and shot it at 400yds. He had a great hunt. well I have some harvest pics so you guys can see. I was wrong, he does have eye guards. he grossed in at 192 1/8th inches at a 25 1/8th outside spread, 23" mains and 18 4/8ths G2's.

here is the old post with the video:

Why in the hell would you waste the cape on a buck like that.

I was thinkin the same thing ,but after watching the old video I think it is an idaho deer. must be refering to it being a done deal? I just spent 3 weeks in the books and never got tempted to shoot 400 yards.

Great buck. Hard to not mount that buck but obviously with the way it was cut off he has no intent of mounting it.

hey sorry i said "books" meaning he can add it to his collection. not the book cliffs but its a good feeling that an Idaho public land DIY deer is mistaken as a book cliffs buck :) and where we hunt its in the rocks, steep nasty crap and a 400yd shot is better than shuffling the rocks at 100 and busting the buck out of the unit. slim pickings for 190's in idaho this year. we also shoot rock chucks at anywhere from 200-550yds on a regular basis and we practice a lot so 400 is an easy, ethical shot for us.

also, he hit behind the shoulder and it exited out of the opposing shoulder splitting the cape up the neck! so he really didnt have a cape left, we are searching for a cape now.

wasn't questioning the 400 yrd rifle shot. the archery hunt just ended in the bookcliffs. so the reference was to the fact that you would of had to have a 400 yrd pin. rifle hunt wont start on "books" for a while.dang nice buck!

Nice buck! Is/was this one of your buddies with a 44-1 tag? Or general?? Not many general rifle tags open this early in ID...

there sure was a lot of lead flying north of fairfield this weekend. people everywhere! weekend road warriors

That sure is a pretty buck. Those forks are perfect. Congrats to your friend on the Public land trophy.

Awesome buck!!! Sorry about the cape.

Government doesn't fix anything and has spent trillions proving it!!!
Let's face it...After Monday and Tuesday, even the calender says WTF!

Beautifull buck. Congrats to the hunter. But he should have saved the cape. If not for himself I am sure he could have sold it to a taxidermist. Oh well to late now.

Very nice deer!

And who cares about the cape. I prefer European mounts anyway on deer that are not in velvet.

Nice buck, I hate to be the bad guy here and I am no PRO at scoring but I don't see 192 on this buck I see more like 175 am I wrong? Definetly a shooter and a bummer about the cape fortunately for you there are plenty of capes available in this world!

Im no expert either but i scored it twice at 192 and change. We took it to the taxidermist (boone and crocket certified scorer) and he scored it at 191 and change. 5" bases, 23" mains, something like 18" G2's, eye guards, its a big buck. some people mistake width for score.

I also forgot to mention that the guy holding the buck, the hunter who shot it, is 6'5" and weighs 285. so that buck looks small with him holding it. dont let that fool you, the taxidermist is going to use it for his display this year, i will have to post pics when its all done. Thanks

If you don't believe how big this buck is you really need to take a look at the video - easy 190 buck from that vid. The second pic down on this page, where he has the buck turned a little, is a little deceiving and does tend to hide his size.

Great job!

HOOK 'EM!

I don't know if its a 190 buck or not but its funny the guys posting the photos (not just this thread) always chime in later telling how big his oversized buddy is after the rack size is disputed.

i honestly dont care if any one believes me or not. I have the video, the pictures, and my friend has the rack to prove it so thats all i need. The only reason i mention his size is because he makes the deer look small and anyone trying to judge deer so they know what they are seeing in the field will appreciate my comment. I study pictures and scores on this site all the time so i can better field judge deer. I originally guessed him, well hell, here is my first post (pre harvest) look for your self.

Nice buck!!! I can believe that score. I can also tell your buddy is a big sombuck too. His teeth look the size of tic tacs in his mouth and I'd bet his hands score 130" each B&C!
