Looking for some basic info or direction on Vernon for deer. About 4 years ago I brought a close friend out from Michigan to have a mule deer hunt experience! He had a general season non-resi tag and we hunted Lone Peak and Box Elder peaks in Utah County. He came the Monday after the opener. On the opener (Saturday), we killed 3 nice 4X4s up there so things were looking good for his arrival. He flew in Sunday. We packed in again on the horses Monday and hunted Mon-Thursday. We didn't see a single set of horns for 4 days and he went home empty handed!!!

I have talked him into coming out again and he has a Vernon LE unit tag. I hope to redeem myself. He wants a shot at a good 4X4. Any direction for the Vernon West Desert unit is appreciated. I am going to spend some time scouting over the next few weeks. I just don't want to blow it his second time around in Muley country so the weight is on these ole' shoulders!

The best advise I can give is, skip the opener and hunt the last 5 days or so of the hunt. You'll see a lot more deer and a lot less people and ATV's.
