LAST EDITED ON Sep-25-11 AT 12:15PM (MST)[p]Both bucks were taken on opening day. the 24in 4 point rough scored 163. I haven't had the opportunity to try and put a tape to the 28 incher, but I'd say he is high 160's.

My buddy shot his at 400 yards with his 270 and the other was taken past 900 yards with one shot.

They asked me not to say what region they were in.

So?

It's a Secret?

I'll keep my Lipps Zipped!:D

For "GOSH" Sakes,We got "TARDS" on this Site that can't handle a Damn,I Mean DANG thing, maybe MM should add a Church/Biblical Forum for the MM'ers that can't handle the Hunting Forums?
Pfffffffffff............!!!

I don't care if they're big or small!
If they throw lead I like em all!

:p

yes you better keep that spot a secret, killing 160 class bucks will make us all want to run there...lol...congrats on the hunt though.

Ya, my buddy with the 24in buck got burned once up in idaho for sharing a spot that produced elk every year without other hunting pressure. Now he won't even share the reGion. :) This place was crawling with 24 in 4 points. He told me that he was going to pass on anything under 25 but that lasted for about 30 minutes.

900 YDS....REALLY ? WTF Is he shooting ?

"Do you like Apples ? Well I got her
number, How do you like those Apples !

I am surprised he did not tell you to not say the distance shot. Doesn't sound like much of a hunt to me. Nice bucks though for opening morning.

Thanks to the davidson brothers people have to now come to wyoming and use the deer as longrange target practice. 160 big?

Probably not very hard to guess. I have a 50-50 shot. I say G. Ok no its H. Ok its G again. I think that sums it up!

Yeah it does not take an act of genius to guess what area they shot them in. Besides its not like its some awesome secret area.

Man I want to shoot a deer at a million yards... thats ridiculous! Where does it end? Are we all going to start using 50 cals so we dont actually have to leave camp?

Interesting to me that someone who wants to keep the area a secret would kill a 24 inch 4pt opening morning in an area "crawling with 24 inch 4 pts". Lots of areas are crawling with 24 inch 4 pts because those bucks are 2 1/2 to 4 1/2 years old. Congrats on the success but you dont really need to keep the area a secret if you are after 24" 4pts in the 155-165 range.

Seriously? A guy would be a fool to not want to keep a place like that a secret..

Geez guys I read the post twice to be sure but it didn't seem like he was being an Azz about not giving up the area. Those are awful nice looking bucks, 28" and heavy. I'm not sure there are many area's crawling with bucks like those, especially on a tag that likely isn't hard to draw so...

If you like the bucks comment so. If you ain't impressed maybe just let it go. Otherwise, if you can't find something decent to say about those deer you obviously have a pretty high opinion of yourself.

I'd be careful to rush to judgement on 900 yard shots. Today many of those are as ethical as 60 yard bow shots, 200 yard muzz, or hunting during the rut. It's all relative. I do agree that without great gear and practice it would be unethical but the sarcasm comes out quick when no evidence that these guys were just slinging lead is present!

The 900 yard shot was with a 300 mag. obviously one shot, one dead deer and most importantly, one dead RECOVERED deer means that what he did was more than ethical. Just because you aren't comfortable with long range shooting doesn't mean he wasn't as well.

Nice 160 class bucks with tons of 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 year old bucks IS a plac to keep secret because next year that means those 24 in 4 points will turn into bigger and more mature bucks.

For everyone that says 160 bucks aren't big, please post all of your bucks over 160 that you have shot. thank you

I mean no disrespect but those look like 140-150 class deer from the pics. The little crab claw buck is around every corner in most all places I have hunted. By all means keep all spots secret as they are getting harder to find. I have no problem with anyone shooting the distance they can do but the statement that 900 with a rifle is like 60 with a bow, not even close. Nine hundred would be like 150 with a bow and 500 with a muzzle loader.

Nice looking bucks for sure. I'd keep the area as much as a secret as you could. Why not? My questions to the hunter would be why a 900 yard shot? Most of us can get on deer inside of 400 yards pretty easily. From the looks of the background, the country looked pretty open, like a big bowl. Was the possibility there to get closer? Anyway, the shot was good, the deer is dead and recovered. Thats the goal and if one is honestly comfortable taking that shot, so be it. I've been able to creep my range out to 550 over the 15 years that I've shot the same rifle and load. I still try to get as close as possible and I rarely take shots over 300 though.

For my skills I would have to agree.

I hunt Bow, Muzz & Rifle

I can hit 60 yard targets with my bow all day, 300 yards with a a 3x9 scoped Muzz shooting good sabots is pretty doable too, but with my current deer rifle, a .257 wby mag / 4.5-14 B&C Leupold, 900 yards (over a 1/2 mile) is out of the question.
I have a self invoked 500 yard limit, at even 500 I know how badly wind affects my shots and wouldn't take that if it were real windy.

I know the turret thing is all the rage these days, but in my opinion, wind is the bug in the ointment.
You just can't scientifically measure what the wind is doing 900 yards away.
It becomes a guess that I just can't do well.

There are some some guys with amazing shooting skills out there that are far better than me and the guy above might be one of them for all I know.

I'll keep my max at 500, at least with my current set up.

Good deer. From what I can tell based on the picture of the top buck, im pretty sure I saw that buck in your buddies rig. Didn't see the other buck. I could be mistaken. I won't say where though. From what I could tell, its a heavy buck but weak on the forks. Antlers were freshly velvet shed. Congrats to them both.

Congratulations on your bucks, and I don't blame you for wanting to keep your spot a secret. Although I doubt it is a secret spot. And no offense, but where are these heavy bucks you guys are talking about?

Great bucks! Good to hear that there are still places with good numbers of mature and maturing bucks. Keep that area under your hat. It doesn't matter what is said here about 160" buck not being all that good, the reality is that if you were to tell people where it is, you can bet the farm that people will be in there next year. There are plenty of people who have never killed a 160" buck, I guarantee that if you told them about a sure thing, tons of them would jump on it! To be honest, I would probably even be tempted to apply for that area and build up points or buy a tag for a chance to hunt an area crawling with mature bucks. Don't tell anybody, especially on an internet forum. Well, you can tell me, I won't tell a soul. :)

I don't even tell people where my duck hunting spots are...

I think this has ben a sleeper area for a few years or it could have been a fluke and we get in there next year and find nothing. we'll see.
