Last year i was able to shoot a four point with an over the counter tag on public land that grossed 169 and my hunting buddy jade cluff was able to shoot a toad of a buck that grossed 178 two amazing bucks and we were both super excited about it but we both were bound and determind to shoot a buck that topped the buck that we had shot the year before when i told my dad this he said " im not saying you cant but i wouldnt plan on shooting a bigger one" . we knew that it would be tough because this was a general archery hunt on public land so hunting pressure would be crazy. we decided a place to hunt. and we started putting cameras up. it was a 4 hour round trip to get to where we were hunting so it was hard to make it up there once a week because gas. but we started going up in june. we each put up three cameras and we would go up once a week to check them we both had some amazing bucks on our trail cameras this was so exciting we would average 1700 pictures a week on each cam. all together we had 3 bucks that were over 180. we both picked a buck we like and started putting most of our focus on that stand. i picked my buck it was a 6x6 that i guessed to be close to "195" and everything was going great he was going in everyday and it was looking like i was going to have a chance at him. but two weeks before the hunt we started seeing other people just starting their scouting and i was hoping like crazy nobody would find my buck. the week before the hunt there was a bunch of trailors and camps and stuff and when i checked my camera my buck had only been in one time that week at 3 in the morning i was so bumbed out. opening morning came and i sat my homemade ground blind on my stand hoping to see my buck. i wasnt very surprised when he didnt come in i passed on 6 little bucks. the biggest was a little 20 inch four point. went back to camp and ate lunch and decided that if i really wanted to get this buck i would need to sit my stand petty much all day so i got back in my blind at 2 in the afternoon and planned on sitting it until dark nothing came in until 30 minutes before dark and it was just a few does then 10 minutes before sun down i heard something comming in i could not believe it. feeding right towards me was my buck. i was shaking so bad i could hardly handle it. he had came in with a little 3 point and they were feeding about 20 yards away when i tried to pull buck my buck caught some movement and took off. lucky for me the 3 point stayed still so about 2 minutes later my buck fed right back to me. this time fifteen yards i waited for him to put his head down and pulled back. i shot and drilled him i was in shock. i had shot the buck of a life time with a over the counter tag on public land. i couldnt be more happy. and i couldnt wait to tell my dad i told you so.

Congradulations on the great buck. I love to see people rewarded for thier hard earned efforts. Can't wait to see your pictures. fatrooster.
