I just got back from an awesome hunt in the Book Cliffs. The weather was warm but we were able to find deer. They were bedding between 8:00 am and 9:00 am every morning so we had very little time to take a look at them. I missed this buck on Saturday morning at 209 yards, shot over him. I thought for sure I had blown him out of the area but he came back in the next morning and I was able to hit him at 158 yards. I know he may not score that well but the mass on this buck is awesome and I like the tri-pod on the top left side. Thanks to Morgan, Rick, Ron and of course my little Rhino buddy Travis for all the help, to me it was a hunt of a lifetime!

Sweet buck........thanks for sharing.

Are you res/non-res? How many points did it take to draw?

Good looking buck, love the tripod, he would been in trouble with me too, I would pulled the trigger on him.

ABQ- very nice, incredible mass. I'd take that one over a willow- horned 180 or 185 anytime.

someone needs to come up with a scoring system that rewards deer for mass better, so that proportionally the system would be equivalent to the way goat/elk benefit on mass, IMHO.

Congrats!

I killed this buck in a steep canyon near the airstrip. I am a non resident and it took me 11 points to pull the tag. I saw two other books over 28 inches wide that weren't near as heavy as this buck. I would love to shoot a 200 inch buck but there was just something about this deer, I love the mass and the tri-pod, I couldn't resist. I missed this deer twice in two days and finally hit him on the third shot. As a non resident I would have never drawn the Henries, so I decided to burn the points and hunt, I'm glad it worked out the way it did. Thanks for the nice comments, I appreciate it.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-04-11 AT 10:42AM (MST)[p]Congrats!!! Very nice buck with cool character. Great Mass!! Itching to get out there for the rifle.

Congrats on a great Books Buck, I love the tri-pod. I just spent the week up there with my buddy brownboy73 and had a great time seeing the amount of wildlife that we did up there. Congrats again on a great buck. Nothing better than making memories.

Thats a great buck. Glad to see you got the one you were after. My wife and I had a blast on the hunt. Everyone that was hunting that area seemed pretty cool and hunted hard. I don't think the warm weather was helping us but the heater in our trailer quit so I didn't mind to much.

Beauty deer- Hope I can find one like that for my dad in a couple weeks...

DougW- I can't remember which system it is, but I believe there is or was a system where they dipped the antlers into water, and calculated the antler mass by measuring the displaced water... the score of the antlers was all about the water displacement, nothing to do with tine length... I think that's be a cool way to do it...
