Here is my muzzleloader deer from this year. He is also my first buck. Not a bad start I'd say. Here's the story.

Well, we headed to the area that we were going to hunt after I got off of school Tuesday night. We got there a little after dark and set up camp. I was hunting with my cousin, two uncles, and my grandpas cousin and his wife. We got up at 5:30 on opening morning. After getting ready we headed to the area we were going to hunt. We hunted in area with a lot of little draws so we each picked one and sat in it. As it was starting to get light I began to glass. I started to see some does but not bucks. I sat tight for a while longer and then some does started to come up the draw that I was sitting in. There were a little over twenty does that came up the draw. Right behind them were three bucks. The was a very small two point, a decent 3 point, and then my buck. The does and the smallest buck came up within fifty yards of me, but the two bigger bucks started up a different trail at about 120 yards. As soon as the bigger buck turned I put the sights right on his neck because his body was behind a bush. I squeezed off the shot and smoke filled my view. I hurried and reloaded and looked around for the buck. I glassed the herd and saw every deer but him. I realized that I had hit him and he was down in the brush or I missed and he ran off in a different direction. I worked my way down there and started to look for him. I cam around a bush and I could see his antlers sticking out of the bush. I ran up to him and I just stared in disbelief for a while. I had cut his jugulars and he dropped right at the shot. My Grandpas cousin and 1 of my uncles had heard the shot so they came looking. When they came up all I could say was "that's a big buck." I dressed him out and we drug him to the truck. He was loaded in the back of the truck before the first hour of the hunt was over. We ended up killing two small bucks also. I was also wearing my grandpas old muzzleloading bag that he used to use. This was really special because he passed away at the beginning of August.

He's a main frame 3x4 with matching 3 in. hooks on the outside (so a 4x5 plus eyeguards) and he's little over 22 in. wide.

I was using my TC Impact with open sights.

Sorry for the poor quality of the picture, my camera died right as we were going to take a picture so this is from my cellphone.

Great first buck. That experience will be burned into your memory forever. You now have a lifetime of daydreaming about hunting to look forward to!

That's a great buck- I love his color...!! Asa muzzy buck I'd be more than proud of him, especially off a general unit...!!

How cool is that? Wearing your Grandpa's muzzy bag and being able to take your first deer. Congrats on a great first buck, what a memory and story that you'll have a for a lifetime.

HF,

What a great hunt to have, and story to read about! Thanks for sharing. He's definitely a buck to be proud of... muzzy or not... so Congrats!

I don't know if many feel the same way I do, but I'm confident you weren't alone when you took that buck. :) I'm also willing to bet he (your grandpa) was probably more excited than you were to share/witness the experience.

Thank you guys for all the congratulations. I agree with what you said about my grandpa being there. I am not very religious, but I truly believe that my dad, who passed away when I was 11, and my grandpa were right along with me.

Well I scored him today and he grossed a little over 150 and netted 135. I know that he doesn't look like he goes 150, but the picture doesn't show him off very well.

Congratulations on a fine buck.
I think your Grandpa and father were with you on your hunt smiling down on you from the great hunting fields in the sky.
Best,
Jerry
