Well, if you checked out my hunting partners post called "Bobtail Nv Buck" you will see at the end he mentions me getting a nice 27" buck. Here is what went down.

My buddy mlycrzy got his buck Thrusday. I had been calling him every afternoon on lunch break and every night to see how things were going and what he had seen. Well, I wasn't gonna be able to make it up till Fri after work. After talking to my boss on Thurs. he gave me the ok to take off fri. I was stoked! The only thing was, that in the evenings I'm Mr MOM due to my wife being in beauty school from 5-10pm. Thanks to one of my neighbors he glady volunteered his wife to come to my house to watch my boys so I could leave earlier.

When I got up there I got maybe 2 hrs of sleep in my truck before it was time to hunt. My buddy mentioned that he had seen a decent four point close to where he shot his buck and sugested that we go see if we can find him. Much to our suprise right where my buddy seen all the deer there was over 100 head of elk and there were over 20 bulls.(The biggest being around 330) Boy let me tell you I thought it was cool to see and hear that many bulls but when you're looking for deer it can become frustrating, at one point I just wanted them to hurry and feed over the top. With all our glassing we turned up onle a few does and some forkies. The rest of the day was a bust we tried another canyon but there wasn't even a deer track anywhere.

When we woke up Sat we had decided that if the elk were not on the hillside the deer would be out where they were two days ago. So we creeped up to our glassing knoll and took our postions behind our spotters. Right off the bat we seen some does and then some forkies and then half hour later another group there was a small 3 point and a big forkie just nothing big. We glassed till about 9am, not seeing much on top we decided to go down through some low rolling hills that go in to some deep canyons and see what we kick up. Nothing not even a doe did we see. But, I had a different angle of the hillside we were glassing from at sun up.

So, I decided to look through my spotter, granted we were about 2 miles away from the mountain I spotted a deer right off the bat. "BUCK!! NICE BUCK!!!!!" were my exact words. Mlycrzy just looked at me like "WHATEVER FOOL!" After he pulled his scope out, he spotted 5 more bucks down lower out feeding. The wind was howling and trying to look and see how big they were was a real pain. Just then my buddy goes dude check out that buck with the really white face. I looked and all I could see were goal posts sticking up. "That's my buck", I said. We watched until about 10:30 when they finally bedded down.

We formulated a game plan on what I needed to do to get this buck. Before I could go after this bad boy I had to drop mlycrzy off so that he could make it to a memorial of a family members. I grabbed a bite and off I went on my solo adventure. To cut to the chase, I got to the end of the road strapped on my frame pack and then off I went. It was probably close to mile by the time I got over the top. I spotted my land marks and the bucks were not there. As I moved farther up hill I notice the bucks were up feeding and this is at 1 in the afternoon. Oh and they were feeding away from me up hill. So, I quietly but quickly moved closer staying in the shadows of the trees, stepping on snow saturated ground made the stalk nice and quiet. I finally reached the last tree before I would be in the wide open. I layed down prone behind my rifle and my bipods ranged him at 480, knowing how my gun shoots and and where to hold I took the shot and 15 steps later the buck was down. I finally shot him around 1:45 and got done packing him out at dark. It was a fun hunt that I will never forget!!Oh, and hunting is the best roller coaster out there. You can go from seeing nothing to seeing monsters in a blink of an eye!! Sorry for the long post. Here are the pics.
