Posting this on behalf of an uncle. He drew the Colorado 3rd season muley tag for unit 62. They've done quite a bit of research on the unit and have a pretty good idea what they are getting in to and what to expect. He wouldn't mind either hiring a guide or paying an accesss fee for hunting private. I told him I would get on MM and see if I could round up any additional info. He is an accomplished longtime mule deer hunter but is getting on in years a bit and doen't want to get in too far over his head. Any info would be appreciated

I hunted the unit last year. My advice is to stay patient and hunt hard. There isn't a lot of deer on the unit but just keep at it you never know when one will just be standing there. You can't beat hunting mule deer in November.

"not alot of deer on the unit"............after growing up at the foot of the plateau and seeing some of the "good ole days" this is sad but true commentary. Gone are the days of driving up thru the chained areas at first/last light and seeing countless dozens of white rumps out in the brush. Can't say I miss those days entirely because the elk hunting is far better now tho too. Still remember grandad hooking a big brushy tree to a chain and dragging it down the 2-track on the way out in the evening so we could cut buck tracks the next morning too. There are still some tremendous bucks to be had in that country.....bring the best optics you can/can't really afford and use them alot. Don't give up until you find the right ground.....it may look just like the empty ground but can hold deer even if where you just left didn't.
