LAST EDITED ON Oct-27-11 AT 01:16AM (MST)[p]I grew up in Iowa hunting Whitetail and finally made it up to Northern Nevada and hunted in section 10. To say I got lucky would be an understatement. Twenty minutes into the hunt I poked this big boy at 317 yards! I hit him in the juggler so I pulled the shot a good 10 inches. He measures right at 29.5 to 30" outside depending on who is running the tape measure. What do you guys think he would score? I've scored a long time ago but he's at the taxedermist.

That's a dandy area 10 buck, congrats!!

Those back points won't help him much, i'd say around 160 gross. He's a way better buck though than that score might indicate.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-27-11 AT 06:10AM (MST)[p]Finally came to a state that holds big bucks??? LOL!

Government doesn't fix anything and has spent trillions proving it!!!
Let's face it...After Monday and Tuesday, even the calender says WTF!

Thanks guys, I'm stoked! I can't wait to see him on the wall. It's definitely got my blood flowing again. The taxedermist agreed that it would probably break 160 gross but wasn't sure he'd net me in the Nevada book. I'm going to score him for fun. Regardless, he's a once in a lifetime buck and I knew it the minute I walked up on him. To be honest, I didn't have any idea he was this big. It was like a car crash. I saw a good size buck and just let the lead fly.

Vegas-excellent, congrats. Did you get him in the snow a couple weeks ago, or more recent?

Classic example of a buck that blows away many that would score much more. This is an older deer that carries his mass way out there, I would take this one over many that would score up in the 170s, even maybe 180.

Bottom line: who cares what B&C says, this is a great deer and a trophy in my eyes.

I just hope I see something that approaches this next week in NV....

+1 on what Doug said. He's a terrific mature buck that is probably maxed out on his genetic potential.

Nice job!

I shot him on October 6th and it was fresh powder from the day before. We drew early antlered in section 10. I agree 100% that he was in his absolute prime. We hunted and stayed on the land or a local resident of 30 some years. He stated it was the biggest any of his groups of hunters have shot in 20 years. I couldn't believe it. They have shot at a few larger over the years. Regardless of score, he's a dream buck for me. Great width, mass, and pretty typical. I'm getting him scored in December after he shrinks for 60 days and I'll let you guys know the gross and the net. If he was closer I'd do it now, myself.

This is my bro and I was on the this hunt. This buck was awesome! He is going to make a lot of jerky! Good clean 1 shot kill. But the 300 yard hike up the side of a steep mountain wasn't so fun in the snow.....but you got to go where you got to go. Good times. He got him with a Remmy 700 30-06 using a 180 grain bullet. We didn't see another buck for 2 days after this. There were 4 of us hunting and luckily we all filled our tags this time....but obviously...this is the only one that went to the taxidermist. The other ones were just fine for the freezer though. Great times hunting with friends and can't wait to do it again! PS. If anyone finds a walkie talkie and a nice Browning knife in section 10...they are mine. LOL.

Should go 180 without a whole lot of problem.

Sit tall in the saddle, hold your head up high, keep your eyes fixed to where the trail meets the sky...

Don't forget the binoculars and your lunch pouch. HA HA We had an absolute blast in section 10. It was our first year Mule deer hunting in this section and I was surprised at the low deer population this year. We hunted our butt's off and shot every buck we saw but one. I'm certainly not complaining!, just thought we'd see more deer.

I just found out today that he grossed 170 x/x and netted 160 3/8. That gets me in NV record book by 3/8"! (Pending NV Wildlife approval of the score) I'm stoked!
