I have heard people say they have hunted the Crawfords during the general rifle hunt. Was this ever legal, if so is it still?

LAST EDITED ON Oct-27-11 AT 03:09PM (MST)[p]As far as I know it is and always has been open during the general rifle. Problem is, on a typical year you will not find squat in there during the general.

As others have said that is winter range and there is not much there during the general rifle season.

I guess back in the early eighties it was open for the muzzle loader, which used to take place the first couple of weeks of november. It was a mess then, cause all muzzle loaders were still using old time round balls or lead slugs.

We were just passing through that area today, so I thought I'd take my rifle along. We didn't end up stopping or looking around much though. I have seen them in there during this time in the past, but it may be too warm and dry this year. Good to know, thanks for the info.

My dad was one of those that grew up hunting monte cristo. He hunted the crawfords as well. He always said that unless there was so much snow that him and his dad and brothers would have to pile in the willy's jeep in chains, then you'd never see anything. One of those places that you see either tons or nothing.

My dad also recounts many stories of pulling deer out of fences in the Crawfords and walking up to deer belly deep + in the snow.

It was a big bodied 2 point. (this is my signature)
