Need a big muley cape

My taxidermist tells me I need a 28 inch (behind the ears) wet tanned or green hide. I see some on ebay but they are too small. Anybody got any suggestions? Willing to pay market price for a good cape. (Or swap out a good spring turkey hunt on private land in Mississippi.)
Thanks

LAST EDITED ON Oct-31-11 AT 10:08PM (MST)[p]Keep bumping up yer thread for the next couple weeks and put a specific dollar amount on what yer willing to pay. $100 plus shipping sounds better than market price. You might get someone with a rut buck to bite...

Put it up in the colarado section and wait for a fourth season buck cape a 28 inch neck is huge it would need to be in the rut.

Sorry, I left mine on the mountain; last Saturday helped a guy pull one off the mountain. He cut it up and........never think about those who want them while out there.

Within the shadows, go quietly.

Post a pic of the deer. 23" to 24" is a huge deer. 28" is a freak. A good cape that size will cost a few hundred bucks. Unless it's a giant canadian buck, I'm guessing you don't need a cape quite that big.

Ask Founder he probably has 10 or 12 just sitting in his freezer.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-01-11 AT 12:26PM (MST)[p]This is a pic of the deer I need the cape for. As you can see he really does not have a "neck" his head just joins his body. I measured him where he fell right behind the ears over the skin and it was 29" and halfway down his neck measured 37". I think this is a bigger than normal NW Colorado buck.

Looks like you need a 24" cape. Measuring over the hair while not keeping the tape tight would probably be 29".

I'm with 2pt on that a 24-25 on flesh side behind ears should do 29-30 over hair.

I shot a huge bodied buck in the middle of the rut last season in Idaho. It required a 26" form which was the biggest form Mckenzie sells.

That is one big S.O.B but I think 25 to 26 is what you need and that still might not be easy to find.

To get an accurate measurement for Taxidermy purposes, Capes are measured after they are skinned, laid out flat, skin side up, and measured across 3" below the ears...Most large, rutted-up mule deer will have a measurement of 25-26"......I would think that would work for the buck pictured in the photo.....a 28" neck is going to be a tough find...and very expensive. I have only seen a couple in my 35 years of Taxidermy.

I have a couple spare capes, long hair, in the 24-26", that are dry tanned....$350 plus shipping

Your Taxidermist should have a good idea of where to find a spare cape(s)....

So what is the story on the original cape?

Good luck in your search!

I have a cape from a big Wyoming muley that I will give you. I will call the taxidermist and see what it measures. I have a 4th season muley from Co and the cape is easily that big. That deer measured 28 inch by the taxi. He had to order a special mount to accommodate the neck size. PM me and I will see what I can do for you. The Wyoming deer is a big mature muley with a 26 inch rack that would have gone about 180 if his sides matched. His right side is crab clawed and really hurts his score.
