Public land can sure be fun and sure be tough in CO. Bucks on public on Saturday are all holed up on non-hunted Private on Sunday. We watched some bruisers this year on non-huntable private.

One afternoon we decided (thank you Bill!) to check out some new country and spotted some does bedded up in some small finger canyons. After picking it apart with the glass for awhile and not coming up with a buck in sight we decided to circle around the deer and come up above them on the ridge. Figured we might bust the does out and see if anything was with them.

Well our plan worked out well as you can see the end result. One shot kill at 1:30PM and he was quartered, packed and in the truck by 3:30. Pretty sweet and I think he will look great on the wall.

Thanks to my CO hunting buddies Bill and Brian for the help and good times! From working cows on a ranch on Friday to 7 mile days, what great trips we have!

Thanks for the comments guys. He's no monster, but I am really happy with him for a public land DIY buck.

Great buck, congratulations.

I'm convinced that the private land in Colorado is one of the reasons so many bucks can mature. Sure is frustrating to work around it all the time but sometimes worth the effort.
