He's even wearing Orange,Un-believable!

Hot Dog,Hot Damn,I love this Ameri-can

YELUM, Is this the same buck that you got video of last year?
If so post it again.

Hornkiller- no I'm not, but you posted it first there buddy so you must be in pretty tight huh?

Why look UDWR,
With a little management Utah can still produce some big bucks!

Hot Dog,Hot Damn,I love this Ameri-can

This is the "ranch" buck right? I have held this bucks last set of sheds. I have a few pics of them too. Heck of a buck. I would have guessed last year to be 35"-36" wide. that pic makes him look like he easily passed that...

LAST EDITED ON Nov-16-11 AT 06:59AM (MST)[p]Mountain_hunter, Yes, thats him last year. I took my buddy Ryan out there last year cause he's really good behind the camera. He shot that video clip.

Palehorse, I had guessed him at 37 last year, and if he hadn't broken one of his cheaters this year he would go 40. Still might when they box him. He lost several cheaters but the inline made up for them.

Great buck for sure.

Larry,
back in the spring, we specutlated that he might be the one they would shoot. Very impressive buck. He definetly looks more mature this year.

That's awesome- Guess I should be taking better advantage of living close to the island...

Did he really need Mossback to "guide" him to this buck though...?? Maybe next year I'll dedicate myself to finding the biggest one on the island (might take 2 trips) and take the guy for free... :D :D

I'd love to hear if he stretches to 40"...

Maybe it's just me SW, but I can't get your video to open up. . .

I don't think there is any other quality

quality of perseverance. It overcomes
almost everything, even nature.

I was having problems with it. I fast forwarded it ad then played it and it worked. Something wrong with youtube. It also doesn't have sound so you might need to let it play. It wont let me post the good one with sound! I hate youtube. This sites even worse when it comes to videos imho.

avatar_2528.jpg

SW, though the buck in your video is a dandy, he is very young and needs to mature. With 25 or so inches of extras on a 190+ frame, he'll push 220, but not in the class of the buck shot. The state hunter will do much better.

Yelum

I spent the summer working on Antelope Island, I have got some good pics of this buck in the velvet and some good video. I also got alot of bigger bucks on film there. Too bad, should of hired me... ha ha. Nice Buck!

Shedito, were you working with the calving transmiters. If so, I think I met you on the way back to your truck by Beacon nob. I was in a powered wheelchair.

Yelum

I was finishing up a Sharp-tailed Grouse project. I think the only person I ever saw was Doyle Moss, to his dismay. I dont think he liked me very much since I was usually already where he wanted to be. There are a couple of bucks that are bigger than this buck. A few of the better pics I shot wont show that to much since they were earlier in the year during antler growth, but I will try to post some and a really cool video of a buck I would of shot out of all the bucks I saw.

Congrats to Doyle and the countless spotters and sub guides who made it possible. The island in the late season could be a challenge.

190 frame?
The buck I videoed has a better frame then that imho.
He's probably 37"wide wide and has 4 extras on one side and two on the other.

If there's better bucks then that the good for the state hunter. Id also like to see them.
avatar_2528.jpg

WOW nice buck WD!!!!
I think that it would be way cool if the "Draw Hunter" got one as big (or bigger)

Ya, I know what he has, I said 190+ frame, but don't think it will go 200. He only has 1 small eyeguard. Frame might be 32, but extras won't take him past 36. IMO. With the growth he put on from last year, he might be one of the elite for next years hunt. Only problem is when the hot does get scarce, the bucks fight and get broken up. Theirs antlers aren't dense like other places. We'll see wats left by the weekend.

Yelum

So were within an inch on width on that buck but im going to say he's closer to 200 then he is to 190 :) I also think he has around 20" of extras. Id like to so the better ones if there are any.

avatar_2528.jpg

This 1st buck was near 240 last year. He regressed a bit, but still tops 230. The 2nd buck is 235+ with a frame over 215.

That was my thought exactly! Where the hell were these deer gonna go without mossback spotters? ITS A FREAKING ISLAND!! Mossback has done some pretty cool hunts, this one had to even be a bit embarassing for them. Pretty damn sad that we celebrate deer hunting in a zoo, on tame deer. Sorry if you don't like it but my 5 year old has put sneaks on this buck and got within 50 yrds, not exactly an old cagey buck. Sure is good he had the orange on though, that other dude out there might have shot him(yes that was sarcasm). Good thing though, now the state is awash in cash thanks to this clown and SFW!! Funny how mossback has hunted two animals as of late(spidey and this one) that most of us have cheared for the animal to live. HEY DOYLE, can we not have the "cool" music and awesome editing to make this look like a real hunt on your video? Oh yeah, and be careful to not get footage of Californians in minivans on the roads right behind this deer. FOR THOSE OF YOU WITH $225,000 for this tag next year, I live 2 miles from the causeway, I have a nice queen size bed downstairs, and can cook a mean steak. I will have my 5 yr old(he'll be 6 next year) take you out and help you with your "stalk" on one of these deer. I would do it for $1000, and he will probably need a bug juice or gummy worms for guide fee. Thats way less than the 5 figures doyle charged. Better yet, we could probably convince the state that Lagoon needs money and we could kill one of these tame deer, then head over to Lagoon and wap that "wild" elk. Talk about ultimate buck/bull combo!!! Yeah he is a big deer. I have seen big elk on elk farms, neither of which are much of a trophy!!

When they came for the road hunters I was not one so I said nothing. When they came for the oppurtunists I was not one so I said nothing. When they came for the public land hunters I was not one so I said nothing. When they came for me there was no one left to say anything!

Hey Yelum,

I think I'm the guy you met up on the north end. Here is a link to the deer I got video of that we talked about.

Maybe the lucky draw guy will be partial to him?

hossblur.... your a piece of work serioulsy keep that stuff to yourself you get on here and wine about a guy that can guide and kill big ass deer year in and year out!!! maybe you would be able to afford a little bigger house and maybe a little bit of texas roadhouse if you would get off your lazy ass. Doyle is a great guy and you sit on here and bash on him. how about you keep it to yourself because no one else cares about you bashing on a guy!!!!

Hoss, you are a jealous one. The only time you post is to say something bad about Mossback, its kinda sad. Did he take your girlfriend or something, maybe he put some sugar in your gas tank? You do realize there wasn't a zoo of spotters with Doyle, they regulated how many people each hunter had with them on the island...I understand its hard to see through your hate, maybe you should change your prescription...

Was doyle and the hunter the only ones allowed on the island?

If not they had 10 spotters in seperate vehicles with radios.
Thats how doyle roles!!!

and every other tom, #####, and harry in ut with a limited entry tag in hand. lol!!! that's how i did it this year. had my dad, two brothers, two best friends, and there were a few more to thank. gets old hearing how "guided hunters" are some how at an advantage over the DIY guy with 17 of his family members and friends pounding the hills. give me a break...

Shedito, post up them other pics and videos already! :D One of these days I'm going to have to make my way over to that island just to see some of those awesome bucks!

I guess I missed the army of 10 spotters on the Pauns this year. Just Doyle my buddy and his son and me. We had a great time and just enjoyed the hunt...not alot different than other hunts I have been on down there.

Congrats to WD on a great buck and thank you for choosing to donate your money to the island!!!

This post is for the experts, mainly Hossblurp and Shedito. The buck you are referring to, 38 Special, named because he was figured to be about 38" wide, was also filmed, by Doyle. They knew all about him. He definitely scored more than the buck they killed. There is something you don't seem to know, because you weren't out there, after the nice weather ended, you were home counting birds on your feeders. The night before the season opened. They put the 38 buck to bed.
He fought that night with a buck, they had named the fog buck. He broke about 14 inches of antler that night. They looked at him on opening morning and the hunter was disappointed to say the least.
They then decided to hunt the buck that they eventually killed.

The HUNTER had the final say on which buck he wanted to harvest, and he chose the buck.

If you were there, instead of at the Occupy Wall Street Rally, crying about the guys who have more money than you, and can afford to hire a guide and go hunting for fun, maybe you would realize there was a reason for not shooting the bigger buck! You guys need to get out of the basement and think a little before you post those ignorant rants about bigger bucks and jealous things about a guy that has spent a lot of money, that will go to improving things for your six year old to enjoy!

You guys go on and on, with your expert advice, online, which is where it will always be, instead of in the field. Doyle, is in the field doing it year after year, while you and the other "should have hired me" experts are at home in the basement, on your Queen sized beds with your lap tops, lotions and tissues.

So there I was naked covered in motor oil, she walked in wearing spurs and carrying jumper cables...oops! Wrong forum! Any way hell of a deer no matter where hes from. I'm sure if the buck had a choice he would have chose to live and die where he did. Instead of dying as a fork on a public land hunt or killed as a fawn on a highway!

Still waiting for the photos of the "bigger bucks" Shedito? You did the easy part, you talked about it.

J939K I watched your video clip, that is the buck called 38, that Doyle's hunter passed on. He was bigger this year, but got broke up the night before the opening day. I think that the video you posted was from 2010. He was missing about 14 inches on opening morning. The basement experts, didn't know that, because they weren't there. So they should get the info, before posting ignorant things about there being bigger bucks out there.

Great buck!
I am surprised the guy needed a guide when hunting in a Zoo. LOL
Just kidding

elktaper. you need help. doyle and the boys did thier job. leave the hero whorship out of it... nice buck....

ELKTAPER, First of all you dont know me. Second of all I dont know Doyle very well and have no opinions about him. I had a cool experience on Antelope Island monitoring sharp tailed grouse for the summer, and simply made an observation of some bigger deer and was subtly joking about being a guide. My boss is a guide and I have respect for all the work that they do. Dont get all upset at me just because you are grouping me with others that sit and rant away on other people, especially when your whole thread is about the disgust of people who rag on people they dont know. I hardly ever say a thing on here, And DO NOT put me in the same group as "Occupy Wallstreet" hell NO. I rag on those guys all day long. This isnt meant to be a hate mail. It is a hunting forum, Im with you, lets keep it a hunting forum.

Maybe I will put them on when 1. everybody calms down and 2. I get some time. Busy with School work and the Kids. I will try to get a shaky video on before the weekend. Its a cool shot of 4 bucks, One of them is a bigger buck, but 3 out of 4 are really nice, they all come up on the skyline.

The buck is impressive--truely a giant--the hunt, errr, I mean harvest is a joke. Is anyone really impressed with hunting semi-tame deer?

ELKTAPER,
Yeah, the video was from February of this year. I haven't been out this summer or fall. I was hoping somebody would post a picture of him this year. I would like to see how much bigger he grew. That's too bad he got busted... Well maybe not, maybe now we can see him grow another year. Sucks if you're the hunter.

If the deer that got busted is a bigger buck than the one WD shot i can tell you now that he will buy the tag again at the expo and kill it next year!!
Next years hunt is a little earlier so there is a good chance it wont get busted.I wonder how many of you hypocrites applied for the public tag??? And will apply again for next years tag?
You guys crack me up!!!!

I can honestly say:
With 0 points I did not apply for this Tag:D

Hot Dog,Hot Damn,I love this Ameri-can

I agree with the guide issue..... Why would someone need a guide to "harvest" a trophy deer on Antelope Island!? & as far as the guides/spotters putting in hard work....... Hahaha! --u reckon the packed in a bivy camp or something?

hossblur, please post pics of your 5 year old. You are such a D-bag I have a hard time believing you could find someone that would have sex with you.

All I know is that one of these days when I am driving through Utah I have to check this place out. Seems like a great place to take pictures of monster bucks.

Bill

I think it's cool he got a big buck, Congratulations to him. I am just saying I would never apply for this hunt/harvest.

WOW!!!! CONGRATS TO THE HUNTER!! By the way, I know you spent alot of money on this tag, Thanks for doing that. It will help out alot improving the future for hunting in Utah.

YOU'RE FAT!! DON'T TRY AND SUGAR COAT IT OR YOU WILL EAT THAT TOO!!

This guy has to much money, and it looks like he had that damn mossback help him out too! He must have been out of state, to need mossbacks help!

Don't you think mossback and WD are friends? Don't you think mossback just went with WD to have the first footage of the hunt on antelope island? I don't think mossback did anything wrong. I dont think WD did anything wrong. I think aa few of you haters need to grow up.

I don't always agree with SWB but in this case i do 100%. To me, this taking of the two huge fully mature trophy animals, one of which for a s##t pot full o money directed back toward the island's wildlife enhancement, is a complete win-win situation. Myself, I see very little negative, if any, to gripe about here.

Congrats to all involved, well done!!

Joey

Elktaper, NV4life, and anyone else. I live in Syracuse, Utah. You pretty much pass my house on the way to the island. Yup there is only one road so its not hard to get there. At any time I will be glad to take you out and show you the deer. Read my posts. I said the island has very little terrain. Mostly grass and small shrubs with phragmites on the edges. Now look at the pics in this post. Where are the deer in the pics? Laying in the grass. Standing in the phagmites. Where was I wrong? I enjoy Yelums posts, he has pics all over of this deer, are you hero worshiping him? Now its been a few days. Heres what we know.
1. The money hunter got 4 days before the draw hunter. CWMU's are supossed to treat tags the same, why not the state? You guys who draw LE tags next year I bet will be supportive of letting the auction tags have a 4 day head start.

2. Doyle didn't guide the draw hunter, instead "helping" out of the "goodness of his heart" for pictures he could put his stamp on. For those of you in the hero worship buisness, I acknowledge the genius of this. He does nothing yet gets the credit so next years deep pocket will know that ONLY Mossback is capable of hunting this island.

3. The island turned a profit without this tag, meaning SFW got there tag for there deep pocket by selling the saving of the island, and the island didn't need it.

4. What is the islands purpose? Why are the deer and sheep huntable, but the chukars aren't? How is the killing of these deer biologically necessary? This island is basically Central Park. Its a place where even in the winter the horseman have a place to ride. Its a great place to go see the stars without light pollution. Its one of the only place around to see "wild"(they are even tamer than the deer) buffalo. It a good place for sheep to transplant. It holds some big old deer, and huge antelope(why not a hunt for them, not enough money out there?) that are easily viewable from most of the roads. If it is a wild place where we can hunt, I can't wait to wap the coyotes out there.

I truly mean it, if you two who think that because Doyle was there it is holy land want to come see those deer out there, drop me a line, I would be glad to take you, but I promise you will be disapointed by the "wildness" of these deer. Not once did I say they aren't huge deer, they are. There is a reason we go out and watch them, its a kick to see them. BUT its not some mystical land that only the mighty Doyle can tame, its for the most part a flat, bald chunk of ground holding deer that until this year have never heard a gunshot, never seen hunter orange, and never had anything to fear of humans. Where else in the state ia a deer that can say that?.

PLEASE, come see these deer. REALLY!! Then lets hear your opinion. Until you see them you have no idea. By the way, many of the "hunting experts" in this state, aka Chris Draper and others in media and outfitting were against this hunt, not just some blowhard in Syracuse.

When they came for the road hunters I was not one so I said nothing. When they came for the oppurtunists I was not one so I said nothing. When they came for the public land hunters I was not one so I said nothing. When they came for me there was no one left to say anything!

As I told Doyle, the state hunter, Adam Eakle and anybody else, its not the hunters or the guides you should be hammering on. Blame the legislators who approved the hunt. It doesn't matter if its the Henry's, the strip, or where ever, Doyle's hunter usually get the deer/elk they are after opening day, regardless of the terrain habitat, or cover.

Yelum

Yelum I agree totally. The problem we have is SFW is on capitol hill every day. At the DWR every day. I have a job, and a family. When Doyle posts publically that he won't guide the governors tag, he's not talking to you and me, that is aimed at the DWR. It's aimed at the career politicians at the DWR who will then decide that without the Doyles of the world bringing in the $175,00 for an elk on the monroe, it hits their bottom line. Yes, he kills. He is really good at it. But my friend your out their a lot, as am I, as are others. This is at best a high fence hunt, at worst a deer farm. Have you noticed that the sheep hunt out there hasn't really had any contravercy. I would say thats %100 because you can't ride the roads out to the ranch and see half a dozen trophy rams just off the road. There are some places that should just be off limits to hunting no matter how big an animal is. I don't support hunting in Yellowstone either. There are huge animals in Yellowstone, the park service is broke, should we now sell tags there too?
I don't like what Doyle represents, but this one isn't Doyles. THIS JOKE is %100 DON PEAYs. SFW lobbied for it. SFW guaranteed the six figure price. SFW knew they could lessen the outrage is the state threw out a public tag. AND SFW wanted their deep pocket to get a head start(4 days). Again why aren't we hunting speed goats out there? SFW doesn't have a deep pocket to pay for it, therefore the Antelope isn't huntable? THIS IS DIRTY, DISGUSTING, and SAD!

When they came for the road hunters I was not one so I said nothing. When they came for the oppurtunists I was not one so I said nothing. When they came for the public land hunters I was not one so I said nothing. When they came for me there was no one left to say anything!
