LAST EDITED ON Nov-16-11 AT 06:49PM (MST)[p]I was wondering what everyone on here thought about what the DWR Utah could do for the deer herds? What kind of management plans do you think they could do? I am doing research for a college course

close the deer season for 5 years and let the deer grow... damn near every utard you see shooting bucks kill deer that havent had a chance to mature.

Think about it.

1 year old forkies will be 6 and ready to kill
2 year old small 3 and 4 points will be mature 7 year old toads
3 year decent bucks will now be 8 year old in their prime giants

I know its drastic and pretty damn stupid but its really what it would take. Utah is horrible.

Brownie,
You're about a year too late. The DWR made all their big changes last year... Even though they were only in year two of a "new" plan... That is of course if you are talking about Utah.

If you want lots of ideas and input, just search the history in these forums.

And realize that having more bucks doesn't create bigger herds... You want more deer, do whatever you can to get more does... All the talk of cutting tags and such won't work. It's all about the ladies (does).

What in the hell does Wyoming have to do with anything?

Don't know who Jeff Hilton is but he ain't happy with Hunt_Rez

Providing better/safer access to winter ranges is a good start... I'm thinking like- teleporters that send the deer to the other side of all the major highways that bisect their migration routes...

Tag reductions may not help the overall herd, but it would likely help with the number of bucks that can reach maturity. More mature bucks could mean "better" hunting opportunities, but would not help the herd so much.

Better bounty and no season restrictions on all predators (well, maybe not bears). But lions- Shoot on sight. Increased bounty Dec-March for coyotes when deer are most vulnerable.

I dunno, just some repetitive ideas.

Agreed on the shoot on sight mountain lions. I don't think we all really realize how many deer are being preyed on by just 1 single lion.
