COYOTE BOUNTY FEE FOR DRAW HUNTS

I live here in New Mexico and every year that I hunt, trap or fish I have to buy different improvement stamps. My question is this, if there was a $5.00 per year fee for all hunting licenses bought in each state to establish a bounty for coyotes would you oppose it or be in favor.

I say yes as long as it went to only a coyote bounty.

Not really a bad concept (I'd pay with no objection.) but we (all of us put together) don't shoot half enough each year. We need something more effective to reduce the fawn mortality.

I wouldn't trust the funds not to be generalized...half would probably end up "helping" wolf reintroduction...(a little cynical).

Within the shadows, go quietly.

That would be a good deal. I also like the idea of shooting a coyote to earn a preference point for the general season deer hunts.

I like the preference point deal better than the money deal but either way many will cheat. And not enough will be taken to make much difference

Make it 25 dogs for one point?
And proof they were taken out of critical deer and antelope areas during critical time periods like late winter and fawning season?

I think that it is a nice thought, but we don't have any shortage of coyote hunters around my neck of the woods. Those song dogs get hit hard and often and we don't have a bounty. Fact is they are smart and adapt quickly. I have a hard time imagining more people out hunting them then there already are.......

Maybe if you put the money toward more potent methods of predator control..... like flying the areas more often. I just don't think a bounty is that helpful.

I think you guys have a great idea, could be sort of like the dedicated hunter thing. Turn in 25 pair of coyote ears to one of the DWR offices and receive a general season deer preference point. There should be no time limit it might take me 5 years to get that many ears turned in. But someone else might get it done in one year, and if they do they deserve to hunt every year. Maybe you could turn the ears in when you get them, and the DWR could keep track of where you are. I wonder how you could get the bounty and a DWR credit on the same ears??

I think the DWR should take one unit or mountain range, set it aside and do a study. Get permission some how to use 1080, do some habitat restoration, 5 day hunting, and maybe a few other things. And see how the deer herd recovers or struggles. Fly it and take numbers in the begining of deer #'s, Cyote #'s, bear #'s and lion #'s and do the same at the end.

By doing this, for say 5 years, we could see if this really does help. If so, see what can be done to implement the 1080 again but in areas where #'s are way down as far as deer.

Maybe even pic 5 units of the 30 + they have made and see what happens. Maybe every 5 years pic 5 more units and do the same if it really does help.

Just an idea.

Bounty will help, I am willing to pitch in 5 $ to help the casue every year.

$5 if it would help I would donate it in a heartbeat.
