Look at this the DWR practically coralled that big buck into 1 area so he could be killed. Not worth $265000 but nice buck

Got a email with the photo so if it don't work I'll email it to ya if ya want

Like I said before, the animal is impressive, the hunting of semi-tame deer is not a hunt at all--it's simply a kill of a tame buck.

Ya, those deer on Antelope Island are no less wild than some of the bucks on the Henry Mtns. Yes, some that live there around the ranch house are around people and not too scared, but there are deer in many places that are the same. The Henry Mtns. has lots of deer that are that way. Most limited entry units do. Those deer that don't hangout around people are wild as heck. BUT, with 4-5 spotters and a hunter packing a rifle, yes, it's a little different deal. But also, lots of guys who get their hands on a Henry Mtns. tag take a crap load of people with down there to spot, so what's the real difference???? The guy with lots of money paid people to hunt with him, the average guy just gets friends to do it for free.

I still think all the tags should go in a draw. My problem with the hunt out there is the auction tag.

Where in that article did you idiots read that the Deer was corralled into a certain area?

Sounds like you need a trip back to grade school and a refresher on the R.I.F. program!

how about 3 helpers. i mean some of these people take 10 to 20 family along. befor you get a rope to hang me. look at it this way a guy takes 10 to 15 years to get a tag. he goes thinking thier is 2or 3 other tag holders . he finds 50 people with 2 ways and trucks. allover.. who really needs more than a 2 or 3....

+1 257!
And as far as it being a canned hunt, it took all day to find the buck WD killed.
I also just got word that the Draw hunter killed just before dark tonight. It took him all day to find the buck he was looking for also.
Funny chit since I had an Oak creek Muzz tag this year. The buck I wanted and had scouted was dead at first light opening morning. Geesh, guess antelope island is a hunt after all.

Back in the day-70s it was one of the top hunts in utah most of you haters arent old enough to now that !!
It was called the anshutes ranch then the state took it over and closed it for 30 years.Kinda the same story as the henrys.
After it was reopened i dont remember anyone complaining about that.there are monster bucks all over it too!!
In fact WD bought that tag and had doyle guide him on that hunt in 2010 and killed a giant,i dont remember anyone whining about that!So lets move on put your crying towels away this is really getting old.

And one more thing they closed the road at the y where the road goes to the east and closed the road at the concession stand on the west so they pretty much had the whole island to hunt,so where you got the idea that they corraled the deer just shows how little you truly know about it!!!

Mossback blockin roads again :)

You must be the ring leader of said idiots...... I can totally see how closing a road is the same as corralling deer.....lmao

If I ever drew that tag, or purchased it for that matter, I would hire the guide who offered me the most money. The guide would benefit a lot more than I would. Maybe that was the case, I don't know.

If you feel that way about the auctioned tag, what about landowner tags?

The state closed the roads for safety reasons,
And no not the ring leader, just a friend of the tag holder!
As for the idiot comment look in the mirror and re-read the last sentence of your post!!!

Island in the middle of the Great Salt Lake PC. It holds some incredible bucks and no one has hunted it in like forever and the whole state of Utah can see these bucks and have been sitting around like wolves outside a lamb pen salivating, just waiting for the one-in-a-million chance to draw that tag or pay nearly $300K to do it.

Two HUGE bucks were taken off there this year. Congrats to those two lucky wolves, errr, I mean hunters. The bucks are AWESOME. Both hunters hired Mossback and he and his crew delivered. So as usual, everybody else is bitching about it.

If you haven't been out to the island feel free to excuse yourself from this discussion. There is no conspiracy, the Standard Examiner had a pic of State Park truck blocking the road. Most of Antelope Island is covered in grass and small sage brush. The south end has a little rocky "hill". The east side, where you see most of the bigger bucks has phragmites. To claim that a mostly flatish, coverless island is basically the same as the Henerys is absurd. As for the guy who drew the tag, good for you dude, that is not the tag I will ever put in for, but whatever. Why you hired mossback to do what I, Yelum, and any other guy who goes out there to do I don't get, but its your cash. For the guy who bought the tag, and the group who bribed the state(see SFW) shame on your house. If you have to spend any time selling the "its a fair chase hunt for wild animals" story, its not a fair chase hunt for wild animals. I drew the Manti LE elk tag a few years back. I never once had to try to convince anyone it was fair chase. If you are hunting a place that has to "block the roads and close the consession stand" its not a fair chase hunt for wild animals. Question, if said deer would have come north of the State Park truck blockade was he off limits? If he was standing next to the concession stand was he fair game? When was the last time you saw a consession stand on the Pahvant, Henerys, Book Cliffs? I read Mossbacks own account of the Spider Bull. They found it 10 miles from where they thought it was. If this deer was ten miles away from where they thought it was it would be at my house in Syracuse. YUP, there is no high fence, only a few miles of water. Like I said, if you haven't been out there you have no idea how damn sad this is. SFW, there is a good bull at Lagoon, the State can stop the train, I bet you could guarantee $200,000 for that tag too. FREAKING DISCUSTING!!!

When they came for the road hunters I was not one so I said nothing. When they came for the oppurtunists I was not one so I said nothing. When they came for the public land hunters I was not one so I said nothing. When they came for me there was no one left to say anything!

+1 Hossblur, it is an island 15 miles in length by about 5 miles wide with no trees. On any given afternoon you can pretty much just drive out and see these deer with very little effort. These were two magnificant animals but an event I have no interest every being invovled in. I wouldn't consider it a hunt but more of a shoot.

Kinda sounds like the Santa Rosa Island hunt that is no more....
