cougars vs muleys

pretty sad day, the muley forum used to be full of great deer pics and stories this time of year! now its mostly mossback opinions and pro predator posts!

I don't think there are posts that are "pro predator" I fully support the use of 1080 and any other canine specific predator poison and any other means that we could get coyotes under control. I love mule deer, I love hunting them but I also know that we are wasting our time and energy beating the "kill more cougars" drum.

It seems like every hunting website has been slow and had a lack of deer photos this year I figured the forum would be swamped with muley pics.

I am against 1080 poison, its indiscriminate. Not to mention what about people that use dogs in those areas? Chukar hunters and lion hunters, my dog should not be at constant danger from some poison trap.

I believe that if 1080 was used with proper methods that there would be virtually no danger to our dogs or any other "non targets". As in all things a lack of understanding on our part is what creates the fear.

Pro Predator? Just the contrary. I'm totally in favor of keeping predators under control. I'm an avid deer/elk hunter, BUT I get sick and tired of people who know nothing about predators blaming predators on poor management practices. Utah has targeted lions for years now and the deer population hasn't done anything but decline anyway....so tell me why? Until proper measures are taken, that includes not hunting bucks in the rut with any weapon including archery, then our deer herds are going to decline.

I dont know how you would be able to target a coyote, but prevent a shorthair from getting to the poison... how would you do that?

Coyotechaser, I think that you're thinking of strychnine and not 1080. The application that 1080 was used in was very different and there where no reports of pets ever dying when it was applied following standards set by the USDA. Check into it, its pretty cool stuff.
