LAST EDITED ON Nov-28-11 AT 12:15PM (MST)[p]Well, we're back from Idaho after a successful hunt. We hunted hard and passed on 18 different bucks before pulling the trigger on this buck on the last hour of the last day of "our" hunt. (Still a few days left in the season, but this was the last day that we would be there.)

We had a good adventure. Homework paid off and helped me to know exactly where I was at all times on the map. Talked with a lot of locals while we were there, and thier references of "seeing big deer" were helpful as we knew exactly where they were talking about when they explained the areas.

I had hopes of seeing something bigger to shoot at, however, being from Utah, and with little time to get to know the area I am happy with the outcome.

It was a fun adventure!

Christian,

My rifle is a custom .300RUM. Sits on a Remington 700 action. I shot this buck at maybe 200 yards, he was rutting. However, not like I had hoped they would be. This was the biggest buck that I saw tending to does. Every other buck I saw with does were small 3-4 points. We did see one 3X4 that was about 27" but not what I was after. He was crap clawed etc. He was all alone.

I think I missed the extreme part of the rut by one week.

Good job! My roommate from last year got a decent 4x4 on their last day (I think the day before thanksgiving) in that unit as well. It's crab clawed on the front but the backs are 190" frame status and he's about 26" wide.

Had the same opinion that they missed the rut and it was a tough hunt. Passed on a 160" 4 point early and the buck he took was the biggest one they found after that.
