I would like some help scoring this buck I killed this year. I have ran the tape on him and I come up with a score I think is too high. What would your guess be?

133 - great tine length on that buck.

His G2's are 26" and some change. I am taping him out at 167" gross and 155" net. I feel that it is too high but that is what I keep coming up with. Am I full of $hit?

LAST EDITED ON Dec-06-11 AT 12:10PM (MST)[p]His H-2's are NOT 26" Maybe more like 18" from the branch of the main beam up, that's your H-2

I'd give him around 145

I don't have the sheet with me, but from what I remember.

Main Beams: L 21"+
R 22"+
G2's : L 26"+
R 26"+

G3's : L 9"
R 9"

G4's : L 0"
R 7"+

Mass total : 28" (I think)

Spread Credit : 17"

Does that seem right??

Makes more sense, I was taking the measurement from the bases not the branch off the main beam. That would be more of what I was expecting to measure him at.

You are measuring the G2's wrong.....there is no way they are 26 inches. I have a 195 buck and his G2's are only 22....and that is the longest I have ever seen. You are probably measuring from the burr to the tip of the G2....the G2 starts where the first tine branches off the main beam.

Your right. I new I was off somewhere. I will remeasure, but I think it will come in at 145" net.

He probably has 16-17 inch g-2's, I would put him in the high 130's.

"... but I think it will come in at 145" net."

Probably not. For a "net score", once you deduct the differences from one side to another, you will also have to deduct that g-4 on the left side. Nice buck, just not the kind that will net score really well...too many deductions. Go with your Gross score and call it good!

LAST EDITED ON Dec-06-11 AT 01:38PM (MST)[p] Simply based upon experience, he has the tine length of a 155" buck. Subtract for missing G4 on right side, you're lookin at about 147" then subtract a couple inches for spread credit as he is pretty narrow, and maybe a couple inches for mass...

I give him a gross score of about 142"

Also- for the record, that is a great looking Euro...!!!

Sorry for the bad posts, I meant to say 145" gross not net. Thanks for the comment on the euro. My father law does the boiling and I get to do the fun part!! After 5 euros, you start to get dissent at doing it.

He's a great looking buck but his score is deceptive. He's a nice mature buck but his score is closer to what a younger buck would score. If you tell people you got a 140-145" buck people will think "mid-sized, young buck" you'd be better off to let them see it and not worry about the score.

Decent buck. You can find a sheet showing how to measure a deer on the web pretty easy. You must be an ugly dude or what? Lol.

MULIENINJA, are you from rio arriba county or did you just go there to hunt? i lived in chama for 10 years.
