This is the only picture that I have of my grandpa in the field. Wished it was a little better quality but I am just glad I have it. This photo was taken in the late 50's. I never did get to meet him but if I did I bet we would have some awesome times in the field together. My dad said, that he remembers the antlers when he was a kid but someone ended up stealing them out of the garage.

Never before seen. Circa 1965. My 1961 VW Beetle pulling my first scull boat somewhere in Modoc Co. CA. It seems funny now, pulling a trailer with a 36hp VW. Where there was a will, there was a way. Gas was $.35 a gallon.

Looks like Widgeon on the deck.

A little later photo, probably 1973. Lake Almanor in northern CA. It was a real low water year. I think the limit was 7 ducks, but I wasn't very good at math back then. j/k. My buddy probably included his birds.:) By then I had a new boat and a new 870. I still shoot the 870 today.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-01-12 AT 06:19PM (MST)[p]Yup looks to be a golden eagle. At one time it was common to shoot any predator that may be after your chickens or livestock. Don't know the story behind the picture. It was in a collection of hunting and outdoor pics that were scanned for me out of my wife's grandmother's photo albums.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-01-12 AT 07:15PM (MST)[p]Here is a big typical my Grandpa Lew McDermott shot with his brothers on the way to church in 1946 in SE Idaho. They got a flat tire in the car driving out into the field to get it, and in the pic my grandpa and his brother are pumping up the car tire in their suits.

I wanted to pay tribute to my father, Joe Penovich Jr. who was an avid outdoorsman. I was able to find a few pics from the 70's and 80's of him in his element and a few harvests he made. He had all the skills and knowledge of a true "Mountain Man". May he live on in our hearts and memories.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-15-12 AT 05:43PM (MST)[p]Couple questions about two of those photos.

BCBoy, in that one with you and the muley with his tongue hanging out and you in the red and black plaid, is that the old "3 hunnert" there?

And kilowatt, how did you ever get that lion tied to the telegraph pole?

Oh yeah, and Eel, you say where there's a will there's a way. I bet where there was a hill there was no way.

Yup, that is. Same rifle in the pic where my dad is holding a big muley. Same rifle that my son hunts with today. When my daughter was just a baby, I picked up another one for her. :)

Nice. Glad someone isn't caught up in the RUM/short mag/fancy dancy spends gun mania. The old 99 is obviously still doing its job.

Here are a few pics I scanned from my grandma's photo albums.

A family photo of my great great grandparent's homestead in Manitoba. I love how they wanted the rifles in the photo. Also notice the elk shed above the door.

Here are a couple of my dad's stepfather. I would guess these are from the 50's in Northern Alberta.

Here's one from one of my first camping trips. Interesting that we were camping in the Clearwater area where I ended up moving to as an adult and raising my family.

Here's an old time photo that Fred Bear sent me when I was just a kid. I had sent him a letter with a picture of my first bowkill, a starling, and he sent me a letter back with this autographed photo of his World Record Kodiak.

This is my Grandma Black Bear from 1945. It squared just over 9ft and was shot with a 257 Roberts with one shot. She is 91 and my Grandpa is 95. My Grandm shot her last elk at 81 and my Grandpa shot his last big game at 88.

this is a way cool old pic. of my dads first deer hunt, about 1960. there are a total of 9 bucks. his is the top left, it was his first buck, 28" typical 4 pt. the giant one bottom center was 34", he thinks. it is a beautiful buck, it looks like a 4x5. those were definitely the good old days.
