2010 there were 18,967 bucks killed by hunters (not does and bucks, just bucks)

DWR's estimated number of deer in Utah 293,700

Divide 293,700 by 18,967 and you get a factor number of 15.48

In 1983 they did not try to estimate the total number of deer in Utah, most likely because we had plenty. So we have to calculate the total, the same why the DWR does it now.

In 1983 there were 82,552 bucks killed by hunters.

Multiply the factor number of 15.48 by 82,552 and what is that number?

It's 1,277,904

The game big biologist from Utah said in the Dec 3, 2010 board meeting that this is how the DWR determines the number of deer in Utah but things were different in 1983 so we can't go by the logic they use today to calculate the totals back in 1983.

Most people just need to figure out how to make a difference, because I think we all want things to get better.

The battle is not finished. It's always like reading a long novel, listening to a soap box, or reading a documentary. Not to take away from your message, but the deer issue is as complicated as USA Politics and you bring fourth the idea that the math does not add up. Just maybe the game (experts) are either: 1) Afraid for their jobs or, 2) just plain incompetent. I cannot believe it's the second.

I have told this story before and I will tell it again. I was flying back from Atlanta from a business meeting and there was a woman sitting next to me that had been to a library convention. They were from all 50 states and were there to approve educational books for accuracy on contents. She was in charge of library text for the State of Washington, a wife of a rancher and really upset. Over her protest, the group had passed an educational book that said "coyotes don't eat sheep". Yip you heard it right - COYOTES DON'T EAT SHEEP.

Here on MM we hear that DWR counts are correct. Yip you heard it right - DEER COUNTS ARE CORRECT.

2Lumpy, I appreciate all of your time, effort and posting and for one like your personal investment into this. I also understand the feeling of helplessness that can consume you when you are so invested. That being said (and you can all hate me for this) Your word now holds the credibility of Ross Perot in the eyes of many who were on your side and even more of those who were on the fence. I for one will stay on your side regardless, your decision to disable your profile is your own and I don't claim to know the reasons. Let me just qualify this with the statement that I think you demonstrated the biggest problem we have in the world today. There are virtually NO LEADERS willing to stand on their laurels until the bitter end. You were gaining a following and even if they didn't agree with you or SFW or whomever, they agreed with your spirit. Who knows you may have even been able to bring them all to the table at some point to throw tomotoes at each other. The big thing would have been getting them in the same arena at the same time. For what it's worth you gave up too soon. Thank you for all you have done before, do now, and will do in the future. I know you won't stop fighting.
