Topgun and Cancer

Many of you know Topgun by his handle on this website. Those of us who are close to him, well we call him Mike. Sometimes we call him other words not suitable for a family forum!

I met Mike many years ago through this very website. He shared his experience in reloading with me and that grew into what I presumed would be a life long friendship. I just didnt know how long, or short, that would be.

Mike wasnt very talkative when it came to his bout with cancer. It was skin cancer, one of the many carcinomas, but what the doctors a couple years ago thought they had eradicated has now remanifested itself and spread through Mike's body.

Mike is comfortable in the same hospice home where his beautiful wife passed away. There will be no treatment moving forward. He is away from his computer, which is the only reason I am posting this. If he knew I was doing this he wouldn't be too happy and would want others carrying on and worrying about him.

Mike touched many hearts of those around him and many more nerves! More than once I had to step in and break up potential fist fights with local ranchers and hunters! It was always an adventure, to say the least!

If any of you want any words of love, kindness or even a little razzing sent his way you can post it here or send me a PM and we can get it to him.

My crusty heart is broken and hunting Wyoming will never be the same without Mike. Normally I'd be praying for a speedy recovery, but in this case I'm praying for comfort and clarity as Mike transitions.

Sorry To Hear this!

Best Wishes For You TOPGUN!

Hang in there!

I only remember a couple of conversations we had here. Seems like a really good guy.

Is there something he could use, perhaps to bring a smile? Maybe a magazine or a book or a trinket of some sort?

PM me if you so desire?

While I can't take away his ultimate outcome, I would be glad to offer some simple prayers on his behalf.

Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. "

Hummm....

Thanks for this update.

I was wondering what was going on as I had not seen any Topgun posts for a while on here or the other sites he frequented.

Topgun and I did not always agree on things, but last summer when I posted I could not find Hornady InterBond bullets, especially the 139 grain InterBonds, Topgun found a box and we arranged to get them to me and he told me to just send him a check for the payment. Very trusting of him.

This kind of news is difficult to take.........

Prayers sent for Topgun

Well that's just crappy crap! I don't think he cares much for me and we sure don't see eye to eye on a few things, but for sure let him know that his opinions were and are always welcome and appreciated here at MonsterMuleys.com.
Let him know I'm wishing him the very best in whatever comes next. He, like many others, are highly valued members here on the site, no matter what differences in opinions we have.
Just let him know I wish him the best and I hope he's had a fantastic life and that everything goes smooth from here on out.

I hope his last days are comfortable and peaceful. Thanks Travis, it must have been hard for you to post this.

My best hunting buddy had the same thing. We hunted together in November one year and he was gone by January. That was 20 years ago and it still pains me.

Fiesty ole son of a gun for sure but always willing to help. He helped me and many other hunters who were seeking answers multiple times. Never did I know him ask for anything in return. I also seen him stir the pot and add to the it. Some times just for the sake for stirring chit up. LOL. Wasn't none to afraid of a discussion. Thanks TG for your help in Wyoming and helping make life through this forum more enjoyable. I pray you receive gods speed and comfort. Peace be with you...

That's too bad to hear. I only talked to Mike once on the phone...and had many discussions with him on this and other forums.

Passionate about the sport and the issues around hunting for sure. Didn't always agree with him, but did respect that at least he stood up for himself, hunting, public lands, etc.

You never had to guess what he was thinking...and I always appreciated that, many don't.

I wish Mike the best.

Everytime Mike gives Founder heck he PMs me and says he's going to get kicked off! Glad he didn't, wouldn't be the same without him.

Thinking of you Mike

Tragic news to hear. We all need to remember that, we all have more in common than we don't. Especially in this group. Despite heated discussions and differences we have, we should strive to be kind to one another and treasure the moments that we have to share time and stories with one another.

If i had one message to give him it would be this. You were a great friend to many and will live on in memories created here and throughout your life with others. Despair not, for this is not the end. There is beyond any shadow of any doubt life after we leave this mortal world where we will be reunited with our family and friends who preceded us is this eternal progression.

You will be greeted with open loving arms by so many. And while those loved ones who are left behind will have their hearts filled with sorrow, it will be but a flicker of time before they too are reunited with you.

I'm with Mtmuley, damn sure made me scratch my head a time or two but I have no doubt, a couple weeks at elk camp and we'd both come away with a different perspective. I wouldn't wish cancer on my worst enemy. Somebody give Sageadvice a heads up. Topgun, I know that got a half grin out of ya! Pick me out a good ridge to glass from.

Top YOU battle it like do on here and I believe you will kick it's ass just like you do on here.
Prayers are headed out for ya.

Tough to hear this. Mike helped me wet my feet in WY years ago with some great public land tips and answered many questions regarding the draw and it sure was a lifesaver. We didn't always agree on all issues but that never stopped him or I from sharing info.
You will be missed!!! The happy hunting grounds that await I'm sure will be full of joy for you buddy! Prayers sent and go peacefully!

Well #####, I talked to him about a month ago when they diagnosed the bone cancer in his arm. He asked me not to call again till he got some clarity from the doctors. This just sucks.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-13-19 AT 00:57AM (MST)[p]Sad to hear. He definitely spoke his mind and contributed to this site.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-13-19 AT 03:24AM (MST)[p]Thanks for the up date Travis

Very sad indeed

EDIT--is there a Fund Site that one can donate to for offsetting his medical burden?

I never met Mike but seemed we talked like we were friends, always giving out some good info , I'm pretty sure Mike has faith so passing is never the end .

That is absolutely horrible not the way any of us want to go. Maybe on a mountain top sitting watching the sun come up
My thoughts and prayers are with him

Sorry to hear this Travishunter! I know from experience, that this is a dam hard thing to watch a friend or family member go through. My thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family!

We?ve had a few conversations over the years.....the last couple shed a bit a light on things. I know he comes off gruff at times, but he's actually a good guy that loves our sport .......like a few others on this board.

Man, I hate cancer more than Polosi and Feinstein! (That was for you, Mike).

Thoughts and prayers are being sent. For this journey, this is not a period but only a comma. Life continuous and may he and his be blessed and all those that are hurting be comforted.

Like many others, Mike and I have had a few squabbles, but he was always a straight shooter. I'll definitely miss him because he keeps these sites "interesting," to say the least.

Travis: I hope you don't mind but I reposted your message with credit on another site he was very active on.

Darn it, sad to hear. Many interesting topics brought forward by his open straight forward answers, whether you liked them, or not. He will be missed.

Mike,
Keep the faith man!
There's something for you after this meager existence.
You'll have mountains to climb and sights to see.
You will certainly be missed on this earth!!! ...for a season.

Bummer.

Tell Top we love him and will never forget him. It was fun to watch him take on the villains of this site. Lots of popcorn eaten. :)

I pray for your comfort and peace.

Thank you!

I'm sorry to hear this news. I have never met him, or anyone else on this site but maybe that should change.

Keep fighting sir. May peace and comfort find you and your family.

I met up with him a few years ago in WY for a cpl days. Glad I did, great guy. He could get a bit twisted up but he'd also give you the shirt off his back.

Sorry to hear this about gunnie wishing him all the best. Over the years we traded talks about Wyo and areas. He was younger than me and we laughed together over that fact. Tell him he will be greatly missed, but don't give up to this deadly illness fight till the end Mike.

Topgun was not afraid to help out a fellow hunter and stranger. When I had my Wyoming bull tag in 45, he told me everything I could have asked for and didnt hold back. What a good all around good dude! I hope and pray that this battle may smooth and free of pain.

I hope he has this picture beside him to look at! Talking to him, I think this was one of his favorite adventures. To hunt G with his Buddy John. I don't know how many guy's he has helped, but he diffidently helped me in several different states! Hang tough buddy!

Wow, more terrible news about a good guy here at MM. Always helpful to others here and I dont think I ever saw him expect anything in return. Truly good man.

Top and I disagreed a time or two but he never held a grudge.

Fight till the end and keep on not taking chit.
May there be no suffering. Save some bucks and bulls for the rest of us.

Oh and ##### CANCER!

Bill

Well seems many of us here had squabbles with him, but no hard feelings. He is a passionate fellow sportsman that I'm quite sure everyone is shook up about. God's speed in this latest journey.

Hello everyone. This is John, TOPGUN Mike's Wyoming hunting buddy. I just got word from Mike's family that he passed about 1000 AM EST this morning after having been in hospice for just a few days.

Don?t really know too many on here but I've read a lot the man has posted over the years , lost my father to cancer when he was only 64 so I can relate. Rest In Peace Topgun

RIP Topgun. You will be missed on this forum.

I'm sad to hear this. I've had a few conversations with the ol boy over the years, he was always willing to help out, especially when it came to helping kids. 72 is too young, my dad passed away from cancer in November at 72.

Got my butt chewed from TOPGUN, and I most likely deserved it? Sure hope he got out quick, and not tortured.

Sorry to hear this. First Sage and now Topgun. He was very helpful and I'll miss reading his posts. Will take a moment this year in the field to think of them both. RIP

Man, I step away from this website for a bit and come back to this news. So sorry to hear about the loss of a couple of passionate sportsmen. May the good Lord grant them an eternal hunting membership in the kingdom!

RIP
