LAST EDITED ON Jan-19-12 AT 12:48PM (MST)[p]I would think discharging a weapon on a military base would have much bigger punishment than the poaching..

Brandon, did you take that picture? Thats sweet.

First, glad the SOB was caught. :)

Second, Really? I don't remember seeing any post about this deer other than this thread:

Unless I missed another thread (I'd love to see it if I missed it). But this deer (which at the time was thought to potentially have been poached), was kept quite so they could catch the SOB. The Camp Williams Range Control worked pretty hard with DWR officers on this. But I digress...

Now I really hope the poacher that took the S. UT deer that was talked about here is also caught (the manderfield area one I believe). Then they can definately thank MM for helping!! It was great to see MM members put info up.

Just curious how this case was broke open? If it was shot on Oct 24, I assume he tagged it with a general tag so it seemed legit when the Taxi received it in his shop.

ETA: UTmuleyhunter, the only picture I know of on the web is the one on here and the one that showed up on "snapshot of the week". The photo in this thread is that same one, just zoomed in.

I don't know that specifics (part of the case) as far as the tip of the Taxi, etc, other than what the news reported and what the Range Control guys have told me.

How did they come up with the name "the Rabbi" ???? Like said on the post earlier "Medussa" comes to mind.

And on another note, how in heck did the dude think he could get away with this one!! If a big buck like that is on Camp Williams property alot of people know about it!!

Hope the fish and game do more then slap his wrist!

YOU'RE FAT!! DON'T TRY AND SUGAR COAT IT OR YOU WILL EAT THAT TOO!!

IIRC, it was the name the Camp Williams guys had for it. The drop tines look like the side curls of some Jewish men.

that makes sense, didnt even think about that

I imagine they call him "the Rabbi" because those double drop tines look a lot like the locks of hair called "payot" often worn by Orthodox or Hasidic Jewish men, including rabbis. And like indicated above, I think the folks at Camp Williams named him that.

I am not sure why they don't do it at Camp Williams, but I work on Ft. Hood and we can hunt on base here for a small fee - a lot cheaper than leasing private land. You have to be accompanied at all times by a guide which is included in the price and they take you to the stand and you cannot just get out and hunt all over the place becuase of active training going on, but there are some good turkey, whitetails, and hogs taken off of here every year.

Because that would make too much sense.

looks to be kin to the admiral... corner canyon buck that used to hang winter in the oarchard. then migrated down onto cw. chased him for 4 yrs in corner then he was off limmits on cw. some one got him and posted here yrs ago. nice work to all involed in his bust...

Stephen ##### Rueckert

What an idiot. His middle name is quite fitting.

If found guilty, he should never be allowed to be in possession of any kind of weapon or be allowed to hunt again.

Just sad that there are douchebags out there like this guy.

Well Boys!

I heard about this a Few Months back & was Sworn to Secrecy!

When me & my Brother first heard about this We were thinking it might have been a Buck We know of living in Central Utah!

Wrong!

I don't personally know the accused but I do know who He is!

Seems like for such a small place on the Map We sure are in the News alot!

As I've said many times, even if you could bring the Big Bucks in Utah back, I'd like to see how you'd keep em alive throughout the Poachin Season!

Larry, I got that pic from someone else. What's funny about this whole issue is that on another forum, it was mentioned that this buck was poached. The guy who posted that thread took a beating by several members who kept saying that this buck always left the base and had been seen a long ways from camp williams. I never entered that thread but the reason this guy was caught was because that buck NEVER left the base. He had stayed in the same spot all summer and guys on base watched him daily. It was pretty easy to identify his carcuss as it was right where they last saw him alive.

I say give it up to mm because that tip came from a member of this site. I helped with this investigation and to see this guy finally charged is awesome! I hope he takes responsibility for his actions.

I just wanna make one thing clear!

When I say I was Sworn to Secrecy,it wasn't to Protect the Guilty!

You know what is sad Brow, is back in Aug. when the pics of this buck were put up on this site, it immediatly turned into a beatuiful buck but he is going to get poached topic. Everyone knew it would happen and it did happen.

Damn shame that pictures of a good claiber buck gets put out for the public to see and it is an immediate death sentence. Even on Goverment Military instalation.

What kinda Security is there on this Place?

That is a pig. I would keep an eye on that area in a few years when his genetics start to show up in his offspring.

Anyone know what the name of the Taxidermist is?

I've seen pictures of this buck on a few different forums identifying it as a Camp William buck and may possibly have been poached. I find it hard to believe a Taxi in Sandy wouldn't know about this buck, but then again maybe he doesn't read these stupid internet forums.

Reminds me of Fritos the huge buck that stepped off the Oquirrh Mtn Weapons Depot when I worked there. He was poached by a brother of a guy that worked there. Idiot did get busted....He had told people he shot it with his Wasatch archery tag. We called him Fritos because someone threw some out on the side of the road and he was seen eating them.

With people like that it makes you wonder just what they had to go without as a child to bring them to that level as an adult.

I think you mean "Minersville", right?

I don't think there is any other quality
so essential to success of any kind as the
quality of perseverance. It overcomes
almost everything, even nature.
