Okay, here are the official unofficial results throught contest number 5.

http://www.padens.com/files/MM_Contest/MMScoreContest2012-5.pdf

As I mentioned in the individual contest posts, I'm going to start posting the results as a link to a pdf file instead of converting them to images. This saves me a few steps and the end result is easier to read. If you have any problems accessing the files please let me know.

I'm still not dropping any scores yet athough if you've entered all of the contests you could drop 3 scores. Everyone who has entered 2 or more contests is still eligible for the grand prize, but you won't get to drop any scores.

Through contest number 5 there have been 333 individual entrants. 193 people have entered all 5 contests.

I sorted the results first on number of contests entered then based on total score so there are some folks who have entered less than 5 contests that still have some pretty good scores. You just need to scroll down a few pages to find them.

I'll probably start showing the effect of dropping scores in the next contest. That will show 6 total contests and some people will be able to drop 3 of those so the result will be some pretty low scores.

Let me know if you have any corrections or questions.

Thanks, Nathan

Man, I sure blew it on those last two and it's lucky we get three drops, LOL! Congrats to cantkillathing who is leading and has been within 5" in all 5 and on the button on #1!!!

OK!! Moving up in the world. If you drop my first 3 scores (and no one else gets any drops! ;-) ) then I am in first place!

ROY---And as my Dad used to say: "If a frog had wings, he wouldn't bump his butt when he jumped!", LOL!

I stuck in the drops just to see where it would put everyone and I drop all the way from 26 to 137 or something like that.

Twoshooter jumps to first with a net of .25 after drops!

Camotooth is second, followed by huntinfanatic, Robiland and Tuffbucker who are all under 1" after drops.

cantkillathing falls to 23rd with a net of 2.375".

Things will jump around quite a bit with the next few contests though as people end up using up their drops.

I don't think anyone can keep guessing under 1" for very many contests.

I think the guesses should be hidden so someone that can't score just doesn't copy of the top guys. Also I say no drops. This is a score contest and if you ask me someone who consistently guesses close like. Cantkillathing. Should be the winner. Jmo

If this anything like the last contest, you will start to see alot of the top guys posting right before the contest closes. Everyone also has the ability to edit a guess clear up to when it closes too. I would rather not let anyone drop a score myself. I think the rule is good though, so in case someone misses a couple weeks they still have a chance.

I'm not in charge of the contest, I just tabulate the results, but I don't think there is any feasible way to hide the inputs. When it comes down to it, sometimes seeing the other scores can throw you off because you start to second guess your original guess because it doesn't match up with what everyone else is guessing.

The drops were in last contest and Curtis has kept them in this one. I think it helps especially if you miss out on getting entered into a contest. If there were no drops you would be out of the running if you missed one contest. When it comes down to it there will be plenty of room for people to miss on their guesses from here out including cantkillathing.

One thing that is interesting to me is that the winners from last year aren't doing as well this year. Does that mean that they suddenly lost their ability to score a deer? I think it means that there is some luck involved too. 5" on a 180" deer is a pretty darn close guess in my opinion, you got to get lucky to get much closer than that.

That's my 2 cents.

If you are using up too many drops already you are in trouble.Don't see everyone keep the scores that close for the next 8 contest. Cantkillathing is leading the pack. Wish all mine guesses was with in 5".

LAST EDITED ON Feb-06-12 AT 08:40PM (MST)[p]Twoshooter---I believe you are incorrect in your edit comment because as far as I know the contest threads are the same as any other thread and you can't edit a post more than 300 minutes after it was first made. The only other comment I will make is that we are playing the contest under the rules of who runs it. Nobody has to play and I would assume from the number that are in it that people think it's okay. Maybe the contests following this series, if they continue, will be tweaked to have a winner who is closest when averaging all his guesses with no drops and one with drops or something like that. I just really have to commend both gents for doing this and making the site interesting even in this slow time of the year for us.

EDIT: I was correct in that I just tried to edit my first post and it said I was past the 300 minute time limit and it would not let me!

First time I was in a score contest and like where I am. Man some guys are just great. Love these too!

I think it is super hard to score a buck or bull from a photo - you don't have the same perspective you do in real life so it is deceiving. That is one of the reason why we are seeing so much difference this year.

Personally, I don't let the other scores throw me off. With the first one, I just took a "glimpse guess" - as if I only had a look or two at a buck in the field and had to judge his score by that. Wasn't too far off for that kind of guessing really, a little high but in all I wouldn't be too dissastisfied with that kind of ground shrinkage. Usually I try to underscore them though so I am only pleasantly surprised. In the next two, I actually tried to "score" them by estimating with a B&C Score sheet. Didn't do so well on the second, knew my score was way off (30+ inches low) but stuck with it anyway, the third buck I was a little closer on, but still a little high (and knew it).
The last two I have just "eyeballed" a little more closely and have been in the ball park a little closer.

I don't care about what others post or if they delete and edit or even if they already know the score. I wasn't counting on winning any prizes but want to use this as a way to get better at field judging. It takes a lot of practice and you have to see a lot of bucks, both in photos and in the field. Since I can't get as much field experience in right now, then pics will have to do. It is just fun and I want to measure myself against myself only. But I am getting dialed in! So good luck and congrats to everyone else.

And Gator - YES I am counting on not having any more drops! Better tighten up the belt from here on out!

I would like to say thanks to Monarch Taxidermy and Nathan for a lot of work that he is doing. I think its a lot of fun, congrats to the frontrunners.

Question? So if I didn't enter the 1st 2 contests I can count those 2 as one of my drops plus I can still drop one more bad score for a total of 3 drops. Is that correct?

I did great last year and this year I am last place.lol I dont know why I am scoring everything low? I will still be entering them all because its fun to do.

cabinfever---That's correct. If you want to compete for the top prize in the contest you have to be in at least 10 of the 13 weekly ones. That leaves you with only one drop over the next 8 contests to go with the first two you missed and are counted as drops.
