The big game RAC meeting is coming up next month just wondering if any of you are going to attend and what your thoughts are.

I know UWC is having all of its members and supporters sending out mass emails to the RAC to keep mule deer as is 15 bucks per 100 does.

Me personally I dont see how moving it up to 18 bucks per hundred does will be much of a loss to hunters, we obviously havent' had much success in managing the deer at a lower buck to doe ratio, so why not try a little higher buck to do ratio.

I'm a member of UWC and I haven't received anything from them telling me to recommend 15:100. They have encouraged me to email RAC and Board members with my own personal recommendations, which I did. I recommended 15-18 on most units and 18-20 on a few.

I understand that many people are frustrated with the deer hunt. I don't see any reason to cut tags just for the heck of it though. We have units with high buck:doe ratios, and they are not growing any faster than units with low ratios. It's a simple fact that buck:doe ratio has virtually no effect on herd growth. If I thought it would help our herds to cut tags I would not hesitate to sit out a year or two. I just haven't seen any logical argument or set of data that suggests a higher buck:doe ratio will grow more deer.

Having said all that, if you want a higher ratio I have no problem with you letting people know at the RACs. Your opinion matters just as much as mine.

I think everyone needs to voice their opinion, how ever they feel about the changes. I personally would like to see most units in the 18-20 bucks per 100 doe range or at the very lowest, maybe 16-18 on some units.

I'm for getting each and every unit to it's carrying capacity and I would bet that the buck to doe ratio would take care of itself. :) The dude that gets this done gets my vote for governor!

It's always an adventure!!!

And I Vote AWLB & Prism in to GIT-R-DONE cuzz there ain't nobodyelse going to do it!

Until they get this Buck to Doe BS Mentality out of their heads you can KISS IT GOODBYE!

Bring the Deer/Herd Numbers back & like AWLB said, the BUCK to DOE Ratio will take care of itself WITH PROPPER MANAGEMENT,You hear that last part cant?

Who gives a SSHHITT if we have a 18 Bucks per 100 Does when there ain't no Deer/Herd Numbers left?

GEEZUS!!!

GOOD GAWD!!!

I have family members who are in the UWC and I have had seen all their emails. I have never seen them call for 15 bucks statewide. The lists I saw had many units in the 18-20 range. I think the 16-18 and 18-20 ranges would be acceptable to most hunters. I will go to the RACs and see how it shakes out.

Can't- I would like to see every unit above 15 or 16 per 100 post season. I look at our LTD units, which have higher buck to doe ratios and I do not see herd growth- in terms of doe and fawns. Yes, buck numbers increase, but doe and fawn numbers don't increase substantially. Where are all those fawns going?

So we are back to this again?

I thought one of the reasons for going to a 30 unit management system was so that we could really examine what is happening on a local herd basis? But now we are going to be forced into a one size shoe fits all approach by another special interest group. Shame on them all really! What is the significance of 15,18,24 bucks per 100 does? Why not 30 or even 1/1 or 1/2 the way millions of years of evolution drove them. If they are all yearling bucks what does that mean and say about the population? Honestly people, lets concentrate on harvest rates, local populations, and local plans based on local threats and then lets have some accountability to these plans instead of deciding that a one size shoe fits all and what works on the cache will surely work on the Abajo's and we sit around and sing coom by aw

ABSOLUTELY!!
Plus everyone talks about "we need more does, we need more does" wich i agree but the DWR has alot of the southern units at or 1-2 hundred under objective?? So whats the need for more does if any more we get the DWR deems as to many for the carrying capacity and issues tags to kill em.

Todd, I agree with you. I think the RAC meetings need to be broken up as well. I dont think the southeastern RAC should be focused on any of the units in Northern Utah if we have no clue what is going on up there. Southeastern RAC should be focused on Southeastern units. Southern should be focused on southern, Central on central and soforth. This way we can focus on each unit.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-27-12 AT 09:44AM (MST)[p]I watch a doe [5 times] stand and get mounted and bred by a buck that had already dropped it's horns, "last week".

With out a doubt up the ratio to at least 18 per 100.
