Okay, here are the unofficial official results through Contest 8.

http://www.padens.com/files/MM_Contest/MMScoreContest2012thru8.pdf

Mesamuley jumped into first place with IdahoSmitty right on his heels. Still a lot of moving going on and a very tightly packed group. One bad guess can still really move things around.

The drops are still really coming into play with some guys like projp that is only off 34.75" gross, but he's missing everything by 3 or 4 inches so his net is 15.25" compared to 264mag who has missed 2 contests by more than projp has missed all of them and has a 67.375" gross, but he's been really close on several other contests so his net is 12.5".

The ones that can be consistent for the next 5 contests will can still make some huge moves. Only 10" separates 58th place from 3rd place, the guy in 3rd could drop a long way with one bad guess.

Still getting a lot of participation this year compared to last, 240 folks are still in the running on the contest with probably 167 entering every contest.

One thing I mentioned on the contest thread, the B&C system doesn't have 1/3rds or 1/5ths. If you enter 1/4 or 1/2 I enter that as .25 or .5, but if you put down 1/3 or 2/3 or 1/5 I assume you made an error typing in the number and meant for it to be 1/8, 2/8, etc. and that's how I enter it. Hopefully this won't ever be a problem with someone winning or losing a contest, but PLEASE enter your guesses on an even 1/8 fraction. I can deal with the 1/4 and 1/2's but not the 1/3rds and 1/5ths.

Lastly, I've had a few duplicates slip through the cracks in my system (that's my job) so double check that too. This week there were 3 duplicates that I caught so hopefully that was all of them.

Okay, I think that's everything.

Good luck everyone!

Already remembered a few things I forgot.

I went ahead and left everyonoe in on the spreadsheet even those who haven't entered enough contests to qualify so they can see where they are. After you get to the bottom of the ones eligible for the contest they are sorted strictly based on which contests they have entered and then based on alphabetical order, so don't think the guy listed at 345th place is any worse than the guy listed at 241st place, they all have an n/a in the net column so they aren't sorted for the total contest.

Here's an explaination on how the contest and the spreadsheet works.

You get to drop the worst 3 scores if you enter all of the contests. If you miss a contest that counts as one of your drops.

The spreadsheet simply totals the score differences for each contest and that's what goes in the total column. That is your gross difference. Then it counts the number of contests that the user has entered and puts it in the "Cnt" column. Based on the number of contests entered, it calculates how many drops that person has and puts that in the "Drp" column. Next the spreadsheet calculates the largest misses and puts them in order in the "Large 1", "Large 2", and "Large 3" columns. Then checks how many drops that person gets and removes the largest drops that it can to get to the net. If you don't get 3 drops it still calculates them and puts them in those columns, but when it calculates the net score it only takes away the ones you are eligible to drop.

I'm just going to start pasting that in each of the results posts because it gets asked alot.

Thanks, Nathan

Shoot... Looking at the total column, I'd be tied for 3rd place with projp at 34.750... cantkillathing would be #1 and BrowningBar23 would be #2... If we didn't have deductions...

That makes me feel pretty good... :D :D

The best scorer will not win this one. Not with the " drop system". It is what it is. I enjoy it every week and appreciate the guys putting in all the time and effort to make it happen. But I do vote for no drops next time. Let the best man win.

Just look at us poor guessers that need those drops like we do the wildcard teams that make the baseball playoffs, LOL! We have to keep the excitement alive right to the end!

One option that I thought of going through the results something like going to an average of all of your guesses and you have to enter a minimum of 10 out of the 13 contests to qualify.

The problem with that would be that someone could just skip some of the harder contests like that spike forky and that way it wouldn't count against their average.

Of course the way it is now they get to drop their 3 worst scores so it doesn't count against them anyway.

They way the format was last year with the different species and some of the contests being several animals combined and penalty points skipping a contest and taking the average would have been a problem, this year it might have even made things more interesting because you would have to know which ones to skip so they didn't count against your average.

I don't make the rules though.
