Have you taken a buck that goes 30+ inches wide? I think it's a bench mark that all diehard muley hunters would love to achieve in their lifetime. If you have done it, post up a pic of your buck.

Thanks,
oakbrush

I took a crab-clawed 31" 3x4 with great eye guards off the Pavant during a muzzle loader hunt several years ago. Not my best buck but he does break the magical 30" mark.

Not sure why these pics are coming out blurry?

Is that your first buck ever Founder??? Or your first 30"er??? Either way....impressive buck for anyone let alone the youngster you were.

My first one (on the left) was in 2007...33 inch wide typical
Second one (on the right) was in 2010....31 inch wide nontypical.

What's up Russel,
Yeah, I got super lucky last year :) But I was just thinking it would be a good topic and an excuse to see some big bucks. And so far so good.

I have a few. These are some of the smaller ones that my wife won't let me put in the house. :)

I have 3 over that width (although mass and tine length are more important to me) and have posted them in the past.

Within the shadows, go quietly.

Two are 29 1/2 + but a couple of them exceed 30.

There are others without photos that I can't load.

Here is another one of mine - close but not 30" buck. He came in at just over 29.5" wide.

And another - the buck on the left is just under 32" kicker to kicker..

WOW! Fuddie...got to be the biggest 3 point I've ever seen! Every year I see a bunch of dandy 3 points, but none that big! Congrats!

2011 Idaho Buck. 31.5" w/ Cheater asterick****

The width is my only claim in a competition with my son who shot a buck in the same unit two years earlier that outscores mine by 3 points gross.

My first buck was a 2x3 that went about 30 inches. But after deductions his net score was only 26. Maybe one day...........

I'll tell you who it was . . . it was that D@MN Sasquatch!

Great thread.....gives us something to slobber over during the off-season.

Here's the mount of my '05 Colorado archery buck. He was 32.8" wide.

Gazelle- Luckily the buck didn't really give me time to get shook up. I was back-packed in that week about 4 miles from the trailhead and hunting solo out of a little base camp at 9000 ft. That morning I was sneak-hunting up a timbered drainage following the edge of a small creek.

As I neared one particular area where I'd seen good bucks in the past, I was trying to slip along very slow and stay alert for movement. I eased across a small open park containing only a few little spruce trees for cover. I'd made it most of the way across the park and had just paused behind a small spruce when I caught movement from above and to the right. With the first fleeting glimpses of some big headgear passing thru the trees, I thought "elk". But quickly realized that a real good buck was slipping down the timbered edge of the park. He quickly strolled down the side of the mountain and crossed directly in front of me at about 30 yards. By some sweet good fortune he paused perfectly broadside in an opening directly in front of me, and just as I'd come to full draw. I didn't even have time to throw off my day-pack or range him at all. And he had no idea I was there.

The double-lung shot placement was good and he made it only about 100 yards before expiring. That was a fortuitous location for an early season kill too (August 30th), being right next to an ice-cold creek. This gave me a great set-up to hang the meat and cape to keep it fresh. The packout the next day was a little rugged, but eventually I got both my camp and the buck off the mountain in two trips. One of my best hunting memories for sure!

By the way, thanks for giving me an excuse to relive that hunt!

Here is mine. First mule deer ever. 30.5" 3x4 taken with a Tikka T3 in .270 . I usually hunt the blacktail in California, but now I am hooked on Muleys.

Let's face it...After Monday and Tuesday, even the calender says WTF!

Man I'm jealous. Nice to see some big muleys. I guess that is one reason I got into taxidermy, so I can be a part of someone else's trophy buck experience. Hope to have my own someday.

I'd like to post pics of all of mine 30"+ bucks but unfortunately I don't know how to post pics...;)
