It's been a long hard ride
Got a ways to go
But this is still the place
That we all call home

I always keep it under 50 lbs. If 2 guys go, that becomes much easier, and more comfortable. You can take a 2 man tent and split it up.
If you want a great packing list let me know.

bowhunt i would def. like to see your gear list. this is only my second back pack hunt so im sure i could learn something from it.

60 lbs with gun, ammo, binos, spotting scope and tripod, food, tent, stove, water purifier and water. Wish I could stay under 50 lbs, but it is hard when you are planning for snow and rain.

One trick, well not really a trick, is to use my smart phone as my GPS and camera and back-up emergency flash light and just pack one or two extra batteries for it depending how much I need a GPS.

Nripepi that's a great idea I never thought of that. do u get service with your phone. And if you dont have service does you phones GPS still work? One last question do you get satellite imagery on your phone GPS?

LAST EDITED ON May-10-12 AT 09:41AM (MST)[p]I use the app back country navigator on my phone for my GPS, if you down load the area where you are going onto you phone you will have it when you get out there. The GPS on my phone works when I don't have cell phone service. Make sure you put your phone in airplane mode this will help conserve battery but my phone still uses alot of battery to the run the GPS so I purchased another battery. I own a Garmin 450 that never use anymore, my phone is faster at picking up satellite, does not lag and is easier and cheaper to get maps all you need is a wifi connection.

Rambo is dead on. You can download the topos and images prior to going in the field and you do not need cell service. Only turn on your GPS and you can go over a day using your GPS constantly, if you just turn it on to check where you are, then you could use it for a week easily.
