71 resident and 8 non resident, can that be right? What will this do to the quality of the hunt?

That seems pretty high. It seems like when I hunted it 2 years ago there was only 25 resident and only 2 nonresident. How many last year?
 
I really hope this is a mistake. IMO, after a couple of years with that amount of tags and this unit will not have that 200" mistique that it currently has. Again, I hope this is a mistake..
 
Wow. Hope that is a mistake or includes management tags!! Would be a shame to over hunt a great unit like the henry's!
 
LAST EDITED ON May-25-12 AT 12:46PM (MST)[p]On the DWR website in the proposal packet that went to the RAC and Board ( http://wildlife.utah.gov/public_meetings/info/2012-04_packet.pdf ) it showed 28 total any weapon deer permits 25 resident and 3 NR. That is an increase of 2 permits over 2011. I really doubt the Board would have tripled permits. I bet the 28 number is correct. Where are you guys getting the other numbers?

There is no such thing as a sure thing in trophy mule deer hunting.
 
There were only 4 total LTD buck permits added on the Henry Mtns-- I believe it was 2 for rifle, 1 archery and 1 ML. Getting an additional 4 permits on the unit was a struggle for the UDWR.

The number published must be wrong. There were around 50 total LTD permits issued, including Conservation and Convention Permits. There were also 30 Management permits issued.

The sight was down for a while now it's back up with revised numbers, more inline with last year! Oh well!!
 
I just heard the worst story I can imagine about this. My co-worker had a hit on his CC this week and he had only put in for the Henry Mountain rifle tag and he and his Dad both got a CC hit because they put in together as a group and they were so excited and shocked that they drew the permit....well ten minutes ago the fish and game called them and said that they had mistakenly drew too many permits on that hunt and they will be refunding his CC charge and his Dads. He is so bummed. I can only imagine how depressed I would be. All I could do was buy him a Mt. Dew and wish my condolences. How would you feel if this tag was yours for a short time? Tough luck.
 
I thought it was just a typo on the permit numbers... I can't believe that they actually mistakenly drew that many tags. Crazy!

I'd comment "Only in Utah" but I live in IL and typically after our Governors leave office they go directly to jail!!
 
I agree entirely. I would probably take a couple of sick days to recover. To add insult to injury the fish and game guy that called him ended the call with "maybe you will get lucky next year and draw" haha I couldn't help but laugh at that comment.
 
I wonder in about 10 years when I draw my Elk Tag if I'll get the same Treatment?

Monday I was golfing with a guy that drew a Henry's tag.........I don't think I'll ask. I WOULD BE Pi$$3Q
 
Other problems would be they were not it the OIL Draw plus the General draws because their names would have been pulled. I smell Law suit.

Now I am happy I did not put in on the Henry Mountain for Deer! I could of had a another heart attack if I got the call saying Sorry! infact I am not feeling so bad about not drawing anything this year Now!
 
Bucksmut describes the same experience I had earlier this afternoon. The lady told me they accidently gave the wrong numbers to the draw agency and that the problem needed to be corrected. She said the draw for the unit was still in process and applicants would know results for sure by May 31st. Better to fix the problem than destroy the unit. But for those of us that have been putting in for 17 or 18 years the DWR might need to help us with our therapy and medication ;-)
 
from what i heard they drew every tag as any weapon and no archery or muzzleloader has anyone else heard this?

OK I golfed with him again today.......YUP he was one of the UNLUCKY. was notified of the mistake. He is handling it well.
 
the only thing that would make it better is if Zim got a charged for the pauns, then they called and took it back.
 
After all that drama on the credit card it appears I wasn't fortunate enough to come up with a rifle tag for the Henries. It hurts but it's better to preserve the unit.
