who else drew archery 1529 ? first choice we drew as a group. i looked at the deer numbers there and they were actually realy strong. only i think 560 total archery tags.

so just got back from scouting over the weekend around duck creek, and mt carmel. was just wondering who else has been scouting there before that fire. and if the deer have moved

LAST EDITED ON Jul-15-12 AT 10:09PM (MST)[p] I have a dedicated hunter permit for the area. I personally think 560 archery and then 560 muzzleloader permits is to many for the unit. The majority of hunters will not have permission to hunt private property which IMO will result in overcrowding on what public land is available. Only time will tell.
The unit is doing well but the overall herd numbers are not accurate. The counts are done on the winter range where a portion of the deer herd from unit 27 crosses over for the winter.
The fire did push the deer out but most should be back to their old stomping grounds soon. Stay up high, hunt hard and a good buck is possible.

yea for sure, we did find some real good bucks up high. I have hunted it a bit in the past rifle. they move lower during the rifle then the archery season. but finding good public land is key with out over crowding... have you seen anything decent this year.

so does anybody have any thoughts on more public access to the unit. i have a few areas i will be hunting but having some alternatives will be helpfull....

i know sharing hunting spots is not code and thats not what im asking. just some public access spots is all, the fish and game seem to not have detailed maps of what is public and private. any advice would be helpfull.
