sounds like you have sour grapes. face it sometimes you dont draw. if you wanna hunt that bad there are a ton of archery tags left and some muzz and a couple rifle for mostly northern region areas.
rI disagree on a shorter archery season, the success rate of archery is still very low for hunting that long of a season and there is no need in shortening it. sorry to say it but dont be a poor sport. you will be in good shape to draw next year.
2nd and 3rd choices are only good if the unit still has tags left after all first choices have been drawn for that unit. so if your putting in all 3 choices for the best units, well ya of course you wont draw secend and third choice. put in for a lesser unit, for your second choice. plenty of people didnt draw and it sucks but thats how it goes. looks like OTC elk for you this year.

yes i know i will admit i am a bit bitter for not drawing ive been kinda spoiled in the draws over the past few years. but like i said i just wanted to see what others had to say. Good luck to all who drew.
I didn't draw anything either but when you have a finite resource and a growing hunter/state and non-res population, it is what it is. May as well get use to it because it is here to stay. I'll be buying an otc elk tag and am going to go have fun any way.

this draw sucks, it helps the cwmus and rich hunters, it screws the gen hunter, wanted a thought you got one,,,

I drew out on my 2nd choice for the Beaver Unit. It's been years since I've hunted deer there. Any tips where to start my scouting?

As things were I was only drawing a tag every couple of years with the 5 general units and never was successful on an alternative choice etc. This year everyone in my family drew our 1st choice (we each did have a couple of points).
I have heard of a few who aren't happy with how the draw turned out. I guess I just don't see it any different then years past as far as ability to draw a tag. Maybe I would feel different had I not drawn, but even with the old system I may not have drawn (no one in my fam got first choice last year and all had points). Now you hear of people drawing their 4th or 5th choice and are upset. Heck I'd much rather have a tag and be hunting then sitting at home waiting for next year. If you put it in for a choice at one time you told yourself you'd be ok to hunt it. Plus you still get a point to put towards next years draw.
This is just the first year, I think we'll need a couple to really determine are thoughts/feelings on the matter. People don't like change, and right now for those who weren't successful in getting what they wanted are really not liking the change.

Lets all give the new units a chance. I didn't draw either, but like a previous poster stated I'll get an OTC elk tag this year and have fun anyway. I haven't hunted elk in quite a while. If I hunt deer even every three years, I'm OK with it if I see better numbers. My 2 cents.
