Mulie Horns

I have received a BIG collection of horns from an old timer who wants me to help him dispose of them to someone who will keep them or use them somehow. Can anyone give me any ideas of what to with them? I am new to the forum and will appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

I just sent you a private message in Monstermuleys. Since you are new to the Forum, I'm not sure if you know how to retrieve those messages. If your not sure how, once you login to monstermuleys and go to the Forums, there is a small link titled "Inbox". That is where you can retrieve your private messages.

If you are creative, you might try to make lamps or chandeliers
out of them. I have also seen people make fireplace utensils (Handles) with them. If you are not up to it, there are companies out there who will make them for you or pay good money for the antlers. Just a thought.

lets see a pic smoktem i might could help!

Heres pic. I'll bet if you contacted an antler buyer, you could get a fair price for them. Thats a lot of bone

Find the oldest tag...and what states...and let us know...thats quite a collection..congrats!!!

>lol....I'm betting gramps wasn't really into
>tags.....

I agree, that is far more animals than most people could shoot in a lifetime. Either gramps was an expert hunter, or a poacher. Are there any tags with the racks?

YOU GUYS ARE SOMETHING ELSE.in gramps day you could shoot 4or 5 deer a year.in a number of states..

LAST EDITED ON Jun-28-12 AT 07:45AM (MST)[p]You could shoot 4 or 5 deer, but not all bucks. Like I said, he may have been a huntin fool, but most people don't shoot that many bucks. Usually the people that hunt several states will hold out for more than a 2-point.

I'm not saying gramps is a poacher, it just seems like a lot of stinkin bone for one guy. How many of you can say you have shot over 70+ Mule deer??? Just sayin.

I think it is over 80!

I guess it is possible. If you hunted for over 50 years, that is less than 2 per year and since most are not monsters maybe he just shot them for meat. Maybe it includes his brothers deer or his father's deer or his cousin's deer.

Muley's and Blacktail combined...pushing, at, or just over 100. Between 2 buck deer allowed here in Cali per year and 30 plus years of going out of state, sometimes several states, have averaged better than 2 deer a year going on 50 years.

64, what State are you in?

Joey

Did you hear the news, you can now hunt deer in several states each year, AND if you keep your son's kills, too, you could accumulate a good number of horns over a hunting career!

Oldest tag I found is '57. Utah, CA, CO, AZ.
3 committed hunters in the family, several part-timers, too. My original post did not say that one hunter killed everything.

WOW!
Excellent news!

I will be sure to shoot a little forkie next time I go to Colorado and spend over $1000 on the hunt.

Maybe you guys missed the part where he said old timer. If you hunted in the 50', 6t0's, and 70's, at $5 a tag, and 35 cents a gallon for gas, you and your family/friends could kill a ton of deer in several states. My family killed 3 or 4 bucks every year and never kept the tags. Most people could see tags an a lot of those deer. You know nothing about the guy except he wants to gewt rid of some antlers, and because he has a lot, you accuse him of poaching. WOW.

Who accused him of anything? I just said that is a ton of bone for one guy to have. Obviously the issue is cleared up and the original posted confirmed that it was deer from the family, not just the old dude. I was just curious because I have never met or even heard of someone that had harvested over 80 Mule deer. I guess I'm just a "Noob" at hunting, but 80 seems like a lot to this Noob. Guess I need to get out more.

Never hurts to ask a question. I seem to remember an "Old Timer" that had 90 racks in his garage and they were all accumulated in 3 years of hunting the Vernon unit "Illegally". Funny thing is, he was caught because of pics his grandson posted on a FORUM.

I didn't mean any disrespect to anyone, but when you see 80+ racks in one room your mind wanders.

Sorry if I offended you 64.

I'll admit its a crapload of deer, but D13, implied he didin't have tags, when you can clearly see them. You agreed, then used the word poacher, even though you didn't call him one. It was implied. The guy didn't say one guy killed them all, just that he had them. One could have just asked, how does one get that many racks. Instead of implying he's a poacher.

I implied he was either a poacher or an expert hunter, and as it turns out he was the latter. I apologize for any offense, I was simply shocked by the number of antlers and made a conclusion.

HJB, I know you meant no harm, but one "ah #####" wiped out 10
"atta boys". As with other post, someone yells poacher an you get 10 guys on here screaming Get a rope. People just need to choose their words more carefully.

+1 Yelum....to many people jump on board when someone posts a pic and the green monster of envy/jealousy crops up and somebody gets slandered....no wonder people are worried to post pics and share when they see someone get hammered

How to start an argument online:
1. Express an opinion
2. Wait

Remember in TARDville when everybody bought 'Mama' a Tag too?:D

Not accusing!

Just saying!

coming from a family of 12,Getting that many racks hanging on a wall wouldn't be that hard, I know we have 6-10 deer a year just in my brothers and sisters hunts back in the day, and most of the racks are like those small/medium with a good one here and there.

I've hunted WY and MT and Sometimes CO since the mid 60's And MN for White Tails. You could kill 2 deer in MT and WY those first years. Haven't kept track, but I've got a few. :)
You can accumulate a lot of racks and not one illegally.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-04-12 AT 09:28AM (MST)[p]I look at those photos and the first thing that came to mind for me was years of hunts with family and friends, memories for each one of those racks. I can only imagine the stories he could share. Good stuff.

I have not counted them but I would guess I have close to 60 sets of antlers from deer that my dad and I killed over the years starting in the mid 60's when I was able to hunt deer. We alwasy hunted in California and would go out of state most years. Very easy to accumulate antlers.

Wait a minute.... I see an elk rack in there. I'm only assuming he thought that it was a deer and killed it illegally. And also I don't see a recipt on that compressor in the corner....... Something just isn't right here. Come on guys, let's group up and accuse this guy over the internet!

thats a lot of horns .as for saying not being done legal if me my dad brother and 2 sisters put all our stuff on a wall it would cover way more than that with big horns of course :) but nothing illegal with having a pile of horns
