Your holding out for a big one. This buck appears and will be gone in the thickets in a few seconds.
You only have a quick look before you decide to shoot or pass.
What would you do on this buck?

Jerry

Pull the trigger . . . unless you are holding a tag for the Henries.

I'd shoot him! I've never had an opportunity at a buck like that on the Utah general hunts yet in my lifetime. He'd look good on my wall too since I have lots and lots of space on the wall. LOL.

Probably have to shoot. He looks like a solid 185 buck to me

Sit tall in the saddle, hold your head up high, keep your eyes fixed to where the trail meets the sky...

I would shoot without a question. He looks pretty big to me. Out of my seven tags I've been able to obtain for hunting I've only come across one that big, and I missed :(

Guess it depends on what you are expecting to harvest on a particular unit and if you had pre scouted another buck better than him or not.
This could be one of those scenario's when if you choose to pass on this buck you'd more than likely loose a lot of sleep over it and regret it later.

During my VERY-PICKY phase, I let that one (just like him) go many times....spent 15 years being VERY picky. During those years, I fired the gun ONCE. Had a great time HUNTING but didn't shoot much.

'Bout 10 years ago, I "notified" friends & family I was going to be less selective. I take a mature 4-point every year now.......still having a great time.

Within the shadows, go quietly.

Yeah, I goota shoot that buck. Especially if that's all the look i'm going to get of him.

I think it depends on the tag you had in your pocket and what day of the hunt it was. His right side looks good but I can't even tell if he is a four-point on his left side or if he has eye guards from the picture. I believe he would be in serious trouble in all but the best units/seasons in most states.
Love seeing photos of mature deer.

SMACKDADDY!

Take one hit on the Bong & I'd place money you'd be throwin Lead!

If You Love Your Country,SHOW THEM TO ME!

I've got Wild Honey Tree's and Crazy Little Weeds growin around my Shack!
These Dusty Roads ain't streets of gold but I'm happy right where I'm at!
All these Perty little Western Belles are a Country Boys Dream!
They ain't got Wings or MM Halo's but they sure look good to me!

Wouldn't matter what unit, what tag I had or what day of the hunt it was he would be hangin in the tree back at camp with my tag hangin from his antlers!!!!

One quick glance I see deep forks, tall but not very wide. with my Utah tag I shoot without question. Colorado I would want as long as possible to look him over. If I think he's over 180, Boom!!!

Wow I don't know anyone that would pass on this buck.
Most hunters will never have a shot at a buck like that.
I wouldn't even hesitate.

Boom, Boom,Boom and Boom
I would shoot 4 times so I could get my money worth on the tag.

I can't imagine there are many on here that would pass that buck, let alone take the time to pull out optics to better judge him.

Now, after seeing some of the MULTIPLE posts on the 200" post here on MM, there are a couple guys with resumes strong enough to justify passing him.

I have a lot of respect for guys who have the experience and respect for the animals and don't need to kill to get satisfaction. That is completely different than the ego-maniacal who "need" to kill, but need to have a number to brag about. For any that say they would pass on this buck I would wonder which type you are. I, unfortunately, would not have this problem.......BOOM!

Solid buck.If I'm holding a Henrie's or Strip tag,I'm probably holding out without a better look.Just about anywhere else,I'm putting the smack-down on him!

I think he is a little wider then most would give him credit for, nice and tall too. Depending on what tag was in your pocket if you would take time to drag out the binos. Me? I would shoot without hesitation 90% of the time on this buck.

Glad you guys are enjoying the pics.
Not an official measurer but I am not too shabby at judging deer. When I filmed this buck I had more than a second to look at him but too far for better pics..... I would have guessed he was around a 185-187" buck. He may even be a hair better since he is a huge bodied buck.
Some of you were real close or right on the money with your guess on his size.
I hope you nail one like him this year.
Best,
Jerry

Depending on what tag I have but very few areas can promise a better buck so i would shoot. Then call some friends to help with the pack out the buck looks HUGE.

Without a doubt in my mind that's a shooter. That would be one pack I would love to be carrying out!!!!
