What will this buck score?

LAST EDITED ON Jul-03-12 AT 10:40PM (MST)[p]I took this picture last Sunday out scouting. I'm wondering what everyone's guess is, on what this buck will end up scoring? He has 2 kickers on his right and 3 on his left(one is a nub that can't be seen in the picture) His left main beam looks like it might branch. He is just branching into his forths, so he should be pretty tall. Not very wide but has enough to make up for it. So what do you think he scores?

I dont know what he will end up being this year, but that deer looks to have the potential to become a true monster. Young buck for sure.

He is just a young feller. I don't think he will get to anything over 165 this year.
But definitely watch him for a couple years, he has a ton of potential.

I'll tell you who it was . . . it was that D@MN Sasquatch!

Thanks for the responses. I am guilty for over estimating deer I find, even when I can accurately judge someone else's deer. It's hard to tell at this point where he will end up. I'm just trying to decide if this is the deer I'm gonna try and kill this year.

I was watching a deer similar to that buck last year. Super young with a ton of potential. He was a 5x6. I decided to not hunt him with the hopes that he would grow a few years and become a true giant. Well it turns out another guy arrowed him. It really sucks to kill a deer that young but you have to remember that if you dont there is a very good chance someone else will. Looking back I still wouldnt have hunted him just because of the potential he had. Im not saying that you should or shouldnt hunt the buck it is just something to think about.

He looks like he'll only make about a 150" frame... With all the extras, I'd say he'll go about 163"

He's one of those bucks that you'd like to see in about 3-4 years, but he's so unique and just big enough that you kinda want him now, incase you never see him again.

For me, I'd drop him first chance I got.

Is the buck in a heavily hunted area? if not id let him walk. he might barely make 150 this year imo, he is an awesome unique buck and i would not blame you for shooting him, but that buck looks to have the potential to be something special, i bet if you waited at least one more year that deer could have the potential to explode. if it was me i would not even consider shooting that deer id take the chance and let him grow. I passed on a buck with a 3 inch droptine last year to hope he will be back and bigger next year. he was probably a 140 class buck and could have killed him opening moring from 30 yards and a couple days later at 5 yards, i let him walk, dont regret it, but its in an area i believe he could get bigger i think he needs at least 2 more years to be what i want. i was also hunting some bucks in that area much bigger then that, so it did not take much convincing to pass.

if thats the biggest buck you find this year then maybe you wanna go ahead and take him idk thats for you to decide. he is pretty small this year but has huge character so its all in what you want.
good luck and keep an eye on him let us know what happens

LAST EDITED ON Jul-05-12 AT 02:38PM (MST)[p]It's on a CWMU unit so I will not be able to go back next year to hunt him. It's this year or never. I personally think he is being underestimated due to the fact he has 2 more months to grow and comparing him to other bucks progression. He is just barely forking on his backs. Who knows tho, I should be able to find him again later so I'll try and update.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-05-12 AT 11:07PM (MST)[p]well i just think your over estimating, some people see all the extra points and you just want it to be bigger then it is. just cause it is a non typical does not make it big, it just make sit unique however, he does have 6-8 weeks of possible growth so he could grow a bit more, but i just ddont see him getting huge. he will not reall add much for main fame width he is lucky to be 20 inches wide not including cheaters( which does not account for much on score i know) however just to me he does not look like he will surpass 150 typical. but keep an eye on him see what he does maybe he will prove us all wrong. take a pic in a couple weeks see what he has added. that deer is probably 3/4 the way done growing imo. I just really dont think he is gonna add a ton more.

id bet his main beams are only 13 inches right now, so he would need at least 7 inches to be average. g2's are 9 inches, g3's are 3 inches(being nice) g 4 are maybe 4 inches. etc id guess that deer at like 110 typical 115 non typical right now. so that deer would have to add 55 inches in 6 weeks to be a 170 gross non typical. i think that thing would be lucky to add an inch a day. i bet that deer will put on 30-40 more inches imo. sorry i know you want it to be a monster but i personally dont see it.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-06-12 AT 09:23AM (MST)[p]Agreed with theox. He aint even passed his ears and he is a young buck. I honestly think he don't even go 20 inches but could be close at width. Had his height is lacking to. He looks cool but will not score well this year. A few bucks I been seeing are 24-26 inch wide at least 22-24 tall and have 6-8 inches growth off their forks already. This buck will not reach that this year in my opinion but he does look cool.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-08-12 AT 00:28AM (MST)[p]I would guess that he would be lucky if he ended up at 150. I shot a young non typical buck several years back that looked very similar. He was a 2.5 year old buck. I think he ended up at just under 150. No excuses, but the buck I shot wasn't much over 120 pounds which may have made his antlers look bigger than they were. I really kicked myself for shooting him. He had some neat character and would have really been something in a few years.

I think it might make it to the 160s at best. Inside spread and mass account for a lot of the score and that buck lacks in both.
