HI everyone. i was just told about this site. i have never been on any forums ever before. i finnaly figurd out how to sign up. (i am not to best with computeres) So i drew an archery deer tag for the book cliffs. i had a friend recommend this area, but have never been out there before. i know it is between vernal and I-70. i was told to go the vernal side so that is what i am going to do. i am normally a rifle hunter, but decided to switch to archery. i have been practicing for a while with my bow, so i am a pretty good shot. i can hit a paper plate probably 75% of the time.

does anyboddy have any hints so that i can find me a moster buck? I heard there is a fire out there is this going to hurt the hunt? any help would be great. Are there any pics of deer people have taken on the bow hunt out there? I would like to know what to expect.

Thanks.

Steve.

Go to the divide and start there. Lots of bucks on the books. I had the rifle tag out there last year and shot a 160 ish buck which is pretty typical. you should also try searching the forum and you will see plenty of threads on the book cliffs. Oh and from what I have heard the fire is more on the winter range so it should affect you. 95 % of the deer will be up high on the divide.

For cryin out loud Steve. I just don't know where to begin with these gimmie, gimmie posts.

A moster buck? Really.

75% in the paper plate. What yardage can you be this efficient at

Just Hike Hard and get off the roads when in the Books.

i tried the search. everything i saw was about the rifle hunt unless i am doing something wrong idon't know. i want to go out there this week but heard the roads might be closed. anybody from that area that could tell me for sure. also any ideas of where to start looking, i have a map for the area, just looking for some landmarks that i can identify on a map to get me started.

is there anything wrong with wanting a monster buck? this is a once in a life time hunt for me! i got tired of the game with the rifle and wanted a chance to hunt for once. i didnt mean to step on toes but i thought it would not hurt to ask for help. i know i would help someone if i could. and i am not too sure about the yardage question. i know my back yard is 90 feet long, so I have one pin set there and another pin set at half that distance. I hope to sit in the last pin when i have a little more room to shoot.

wolf den has a few big bucks right now.

Isnt that where the fire is? Would there really be deer back in there before new plants grow back?

And that's what Hunting is all about for me! I did see some bigger one's up on top like some have said. Good luck hope your hunt turns out as fun as mine. And by the way welcome to M&M I'm New here too compared to some of these Guys!

who else has an archery tag? i am going this weekend and would love to compare notes with someone

Steve.

sent you a pm earlier, I was down there last weekend, and should be down there on the 27th also.

first of all i think you need to decide what a trophy buck is in your own mind, if its a score your looking for you have your work cut out for you at the cliffs. its possible to kill a trophy sized deer according to the boone and crocket club standards. the cliffs will be a good quality hunt, and you will see piles of deer. its up to you to decide what is a trophy and what is not. you will find alot of bucks ranging from 18"-25" scoring about 140-160 with a few being bigger if you hunt hard and smart. with that being said you have a tag with good ginetics and higher than normal deer numbers, no matter what the outcome is it is a fun hunt. i grew up in a family of meat hunters and was always told, "you cant eat the antlers". this tag does not compare to the general season i always hunted but i always had fun no matter what. i think everybody would love to shoot a 200" buck at least once in their life if your a meat hunter or a trophy hunter. the funnest hunts ive been on is with family and friends, and the memories shared with them. have fun, make memories and if you can smoke that 200". call me a little old fashion, but i think the world of hunting has gotten way out of controle. its now alot about score, record books and bragging rights instead of putting meat in the freezer. this tag gives the average guy like you and me a chance at a nice sized deer regardless of the score, and a great chance to put alot of meat in the freezer. i have sent you a pm "personal message" if interested contact me and we can talk. good luck on the hunt of a lifetime, be safe and have fun.

Shepp could not of said it better. Have fun, Be careful and most important MAKE THOSE MEMORIES. He will give you some good advice.

I also have an archery tag for the Books. I know the area somewhat, but could always use any info that people are willing to share.
