muley hunt in unit 21

I drew the tag of my lifetime. It is in Colorado, unit 21, 3rd season rifle, mule deer hunt. Can anyone please reply with information of this unit?

Lots of roads, chains for all 4 are a must, Texas Mtn has closures for feral horses. You will see a lot of deer.

Do a forum search (mule deer & Colo). There's a ton of info and photos of area 21.

If possible plan on spending sometime looking over areas of the unit. This is above an beyond the season dates.

We were there 2 years ago. Weather is a big help. Texas Mountain, Onion Springs and the draws between Texas Mountain and Rangley. I don't have his number anymore, but the game bioligist for that area has alot of info for the area. There are roadfs on every ridge. You can use that to your advantage by stopping every half mile or so and walking off the side and glassing the draws and ravines. Talk to the gas well workers in the field, you'll see them every day. Deer numbers are down abit from the pasted because of weather conditions but ther are still quality bucks.....Mike

I hunted it last year and was fortunate to kill a buck of a lifetime. I had to look over lots of deer to find "the one", and I could have easily not found him, but overall, we had a great time.
My advice would be patience is key and it is important to be mobile. The longer you hunt the more of the rut you will get, so don't get too trigger happy.(easy to say, but hard to do).

I drew the unit 5 years ago. I killed a 5 X 7 buck 27" wide. I really kind of felt bad because the buck was young, and had great potential to be something really great. I killed him on the upper end of Calamity Ridge. Also saw a nice buck in an area the locals I believe call Philadephia. Not sure it's on the map. Calamity ridge is long and holds alot of deer. Let's see some pics boyz. I wanna see these unit 21 bucks. Also, fo any of you have any pics of what the country looks like? My buddy just moved to meeker, and I am starting to accumulate some points. I'll probably pull the trigger on a unit 22 3rd season or 21 2nd season because that 21 3rd seems like a long wait. Anyway, post up some pics of some deer and some of the lay of the land.
