Utah Muzzy Deer Advice

This upcoming season will be my first muzzleloader hunt ever... I've always just hunted the general season rifle hunts which are usually later in the the month of October. Can anyone offer some advice about what it's like to hunt deer in late Sept/early Oct? I imagine that I would most likely have to hunt higher than normal if the weather is still pretty hot or hope for some early cold weather to push them lower. Should I make hunting around water more of a priority? Totally new to this! Just for info, I'll be hunting the Cache unit.

The muzzy hunt is a lot of fun. The Cache is a good unit, but will see a lot of pressure. There are nice deer taken every year though. My advice would be to stay high and get away from the roads. It is neat country so enjoy it.

I miss the old season, but for weather its the best, cool mornings and evenings, warm days, you can access the entire mtn. We have found that you hunt the same country as you would the rifle hunt. There has been a little less presure(might change with the smaller units). We really enjoy it, and as an added bounus, the elk are usually still pretty active which is fun to have going around you. The hunting is about the same, the deer might be a litlle less spooky, and there are probably a few more of them, but overall its about the same as the rifle hunt IMO.

When they came for the road hunters I was not one so I said nothing. When they came for the oppurtunists I was not one so I said nothing. When they came for the public land hunters I was not one so I said nothing. When they came for me there was no one left to say anything!

Thanks for the replies! I figured there wouldn't be too much of a difference between the muzzy and rifle hunts, but I guess it can all depend on the weather and conditions. I've found a few bucks in the area, but I'm still looking around each week. The more I practice with my smoke pole the more I can't wait for the season to roll around!
