I just moved from St. George to Logan and I have a muzzle loader tag. Where would a good place for me to go hunting be? I'm not looking for anyone's honey holes just a place for me to start where i will see quite a few deer. Thanks.

From what I heard from my friend they gave out 8,000 tags. Why are there so many tags if the deer population is down?

LAST EDITED ON Aug-13-12 AT 08:23PM (MST)[p]Go to Curtis Creek road. It's a LONG road that takes you towards Bear lake. Saw lots of deer there last year. But the parade of hunters I saw on that dirt road were even more.

Oh and to answer your question about why the DWR would sell so many tags if there isn't many deer?????????Cuz all they care about is getting your money. That's why.

If you want to get one of the last few nice bucks in the unit... do drive forever out of logan to hunt for deer. Go on the face about north logan or logan. Where are all the hunters during the hunt? deep in... the deer know this. You may start by getting your spotting scope out and watching the face few weeks before the hunt.

I have been up there scouting and didnt see very many deer just a ton of elk and moose. It looks like its going to be tough up on the cache.

you all need to look harder! i have found numerous bucks that will score very well and many smaller 140-150 class bucks! its been good to me this year so far! cant wait till i can watch one hit the dirt.

Hey hhunter23 want to pair up this year. ;)

Go on the Wellsville Mountain from the north end access.

No Quad Queer's to contend with and ton's of country to hunt.

Enjoy

You better get some monster lungs if ya wanna hunt the Wells

Go to the top of Green Canyon by Logan Canyon or the top of Mt Elmer. Get up there Monday...scout Monday and Tuesday....pack a backpack for the week....or take a horse....get up at 5 am...spot with a 30 power spotting scope...find your buck...hunt him hard on Wednesday....learn how to bone out and pack out your meat....go prepared for snow...stay up and hunt till 8pm (dark)....eat in the dark at camp in morning and night.

There are still 30 inch bucks every year around the tops of those peaks.

Nobody hunts up there....see above to find out why...

Good luck ;)

This thread contains awesome advice to several of the best areas to hunt on the Cache. It is NOT easy country though, but there are big bucks shot in these spots every year. Good luck. Go to Al's and look at some of the monsters hanging in there behind the gun counter. Lots of those bucks have come off the Cache unit. The Wellsvilles have produced a 300" buck. That area has the genetics and the terrain to produce a handfull of whoppers. Nowdays it gets hunted really hard though and there sure aren't very many. Good luck.

Thanks, Everyone for the info and advice. I didn't expect much from people when I asked where to hunt on the Cache unit. The members on MM have been excellent, and great sportsman. I am going to give it my best. I am busy with school and work though. I will keep you posted on how I do.

Sorry leica....

Figured you would have a thought about my post...

I really enjoy the Wellsville from the north....

You will have to pick and choose over the huge herds of bucks that you will run into, Most hunters just give up after a couple of days and shoot a small one because they can't pick which wallhanger to kill.
I will never hunt a unit like that, because the choose is to hard for a normal man to make.

Best of luck.
