Back to Brisket

Ok, understanding that not all deer are created equal...
What do you guys think is a reasonable average for depth of chest on a typical mature buck? I am working out my pin hold thoughts and am thinking of a vertical line drawn just behind the elbow, from the top of the back to the bottom of the chest. And by mature, I am thinking 4 y/o. - the odds of me tripping over a sloppy fat, 9yo, toe-dragger aren't possible to calculate with todays slow computers!
While we're at it, what is average for tip-tip on ears? I've seen people say everything from 20"-26" What is actually a reasonable guess?
Have at 'er !

Murphy's Law is proven true once again!

M.L. #2 - Once all Known resources have been exhausted and you finally swallow your pride to ask somebody a question, you will immediately find your answer.

Apparently 15" back to brisket is a very reasonable number. Anybody disagree?

I really don't like sight clutter and am using three pins set at 20, 35, and 50. I needed the avg measurement to handle ethical gap shooting and/or holdover.

No takers yet on the tip to tip numbers though.

15-16" bread basket is correct.

Ears, I'd say 22 to 23 strait out, but is very difficult estimate as any angle up or back can impact the measurement a lot. The ear spread on the deer mounted and on the wall in front of me is 18, but they are slightly angled up and back.

A buddy of mine killed a buck that had a 28" tip to tip spread on his ears. That is an exception, though.I'm saying most will be in the 20"-22" range, depending on age.

I have heard a standard ear width will be 21". Both my deer on the wall are right at 21", one just above and the other just below. I'd love to see a deer with 26" ear width, shoot him thinking he's 24" wide, and he ends up 30"!!!

Hold on here. Yes, while a buck might be 15-16" back to brisket, not all of that is vital. The top 4-5" or so is just backstrap and the bottom 2-3" is non vital too. Figure on an 8" truly vital area.

I have always heard that if a bucks horns span to where they are just as wide as the ears he will generally have a 24" width. So with that said I guess the ears are 22 - 23 inches wide?
