Velvet??

Guys,
Everybody has their preference, but I prefer Bucks with hard horned racks. As of last weekend, all the deer I seen are still packing the fuzz.. I have a Colorado muzzy hunt coming up next week and I am hoping they start stripping that fuzz real quick. Anyone seen any deer that have started to strip the velvet?? Do you think they will start stripping by next weekend??

my dad has 3 CO muzzy bucks 2 were full velvet and one was just starting to rub .but i have seen deer polished off mid archery so i dont have a solid answer .Its hit and miss some will some wont .

I saw a polished buck on August 28 last year and most bucks in that area were stripped and polished by Sept 15. There shouldn't be any problem with stripping the velvet and applying one of the many products to stain the antlers the way you like them - they're done growing and hard by now.

We hunted the same unit a couple years ago and it was a crap shoot. One group of bucks would be completely polished and another group would still be packin the fuzz. I guess its all wishful thinking. I am just excited about getting up on the mountain.. 9 more Sleeps.. haha

I'm with you on the hardhorned but I found a CO buck last Sept 12 that I couldn't pass. His mainbeam tips were just barely poking out but his velvet was still in great shape. So the later the better.

Velvet with the thin gray coat is the best in my book.

I know it depends on the area but I thought I'd share
that I saw my first hard horned buck of the season today.

They will pretty much be all stripped this week if you ask me.

I've never liked mounts with the velvet on. It just doesn't have the contrast in colors.
