226" Paunsagaunt buck...???

He does indeed gross 226 and net 220. The hunter is Bo Gardner (not sure on that spelling), and the guide is Jeremy Chamberlain of Color Country Outfitters. Super cool deer

Yep, I spoke with Jeremy Chamberlain this morning. He is the guide in southern Utah whose client killed this buck. Jeremy had hunted this buck for the past 4 years. I wont tell the whole story, as clearly Jeremy and his hunter, Bo Gardner will want to tell it on their own. But I can say that the work and preparation leading up to the kill...the tracking job....and the ending to the story are just unreal!!!! What a buck!!! Jeremy told me that he rough scored it/green scored it around 220 (typical). It should be the new state record and, if I'm not mistaken...could be the pending world record typical velvet archery buck...pending official measurements.
HUGE KUDOS to Bo Gardner for making the shot when it counted and to Jeremy for all his work. Congrats guys!!!
Here is a link to Cabelas Deer nation Weekly hunt that featured footage of the hunt prior to the kill. Great footage of an awesome buck that no doubt will be legendary!

How did they get the video done so fast ? I have a picture of the buck. I guess we aren't allowed to post it up ?

Thats a giant typical for sure. Those deer sure did seem to like those apples in that video. Is that legal in Utah? Id like to see the harvest pics. Congrats to the hunter.

I was told its legal to bait in Utah by a registered guide there. Awesome buck

FYI: Pope and Young doesn't recognize a "velvet" category in its record books ...

Good video. That buck has some shoulders on him. What a giant. That dude had the right guide to get that buck. Congrats on definatley getting what u pay for. Good for the hunter.

pope and young may not have a velvet category but they still recognize a velvet buck as long as it meets the minimum requirement.

That is a freakin toad of a buck though congrats to the hunter

Kinda sad after watching the Cabela's video....

Not really hunting---more like sitting over Apples.....and then harvesting.

I find it funny how everyone is harping on the apples. I would bet that 90% of you caught up on the apples use salt blocks, mineral blocks, or some other type of lure. I ask, what is the difference? Pot calling kettle black huh.

O and he actually took it out of a tree stand not the blind in the video. Regardless it's a giant and congrats to Bo.

Where can i order a dump truck of apples? I need all the help i can get. And, im just trying to kill a measely little 190 buck. Ha Ha

Not in the least brother. The difference is the special exception to be able to use the apples thats a little whack to me. If everyone could dump a bunch of apples then no big deal. Public land rules should be the same across the playing board.

This buck is a stud for sure. I have texted with a guy was there and videoed the hunt. Congrats to the hunter and guys involved with helping him.

I do not know if bait was used for the hunt however I read on the BB squared website that baiting is legal in Utah. I have never personally hunted over bait in Utah but have used it to get trail cam pictures many times.

That being said I have hunted in Kansas and Texas with the use of corn, water holes, attractants, and it is still very hard hunting. I have seen small bucks use these bait sites but I have never witnessed in MANY hours in blinds and stands a big buck using them in daylight hours. I realize there are high fence ranches or situations where the deer walk right into it but in most cases that is not how it works. You could sit there for days and days and not see a thing. You also still have to remain quiet scent free and you still have to preform the shot. I am just hear to tell you baiting wild deer and actually killing them that way would be a lot tougher than you think especially in Utah. There is alot of time effort patience skill that would have to go into pulling that off on a big deer of that size. If bait was used it wasn't as simple as some of you make it out to be.

All I know is that this is one of the most impressive typical deer I have ever seen and I look forward to hearing the whole story of how this hunt went down. Congrats again to the hunter.

Oh, that could be said for anything any of us use to kill. The cavemen would say to us all......."you all suck, try killing stuff with a sharp rock"

I just ordered my dump truck of apples a couple posts up. I wonder if Walmart delivers? And, red or green? Do they like them whole or sliced? Peeled or unpeeled? The peel always gets stuck in my teeth, so I'd have to have them peeled. What about big bucks?
See, baiting has it challenges too.

***Absolutely not, as it's top secret, LOL!!!

There's a giant difference between using mineral blocks to get trail cam pics of critters in the general area and sitting in a blind 30 yards from a pile of frickin apples!! This deer should absolutely NOT be eligible for any record entry...had it been HUNTED, I'd feel differently!!

Is this Monstermuleys or Piss and Whine.Com Bait/Blind, Spot and stalk whatever who gives a chit. Thats an amazing buck congrats to the hunter. I hope to read the story in an upcoming magazine. I would love to see scouting pics from previous years too and see the bucks progression. Still Multiple Record animals pulled out every year. Way to go.

It's an accomplishment for the guide, all the Hunter did was pull the trigger. Bait though?........

I'll tell you who it was . . . it was that D@MN Sasquatch!

Bo puts in the time and kills great animals.
He shot a great 400 inch bull last year, public land Utah.
So he is a patient hunter for sure.

Was that 400 inch bull similar to the one his brother shot a couple years ago?

I'll tell you who it was . . . it was that D@MN Sasquatch!

The first time I watched the video I never noticed the apples cuz I was too busy lookin at those awesome bucks.
Just watched it again and still had a hard time lookin for apples cuz I couldn't stop starring at those giant deer.
Personally I don't care. Sportsmans warehouse sells apple mineral blocks, apple flavored buck jam, and trophy rock, all of which are legal.
People always have to find something to ##### about.

Congrats on a giant deer with a bow! Way to find him and get it done.

Definitely Piss and Whine.Com~ Heck ya, Apples! and those were Utah Apples getting the job done. Props to the hunter for following through. Pretty soon you all will be bitching that using a Gun or a Bow & Arrow are unethical as well. And B&C should not allow it in the book because it was killed with a Gun or a Bow with a Razor Tip Arrow and thats just not fair chase. That as a hell of a buck and a great hunt. I can guarantee that if any of you haters had the opportunity at that buck and the guide asked you if you would like apples in front of your blind to help bring it in for a shot, everyone of you would be helping spread them out GUARANTEED!

Holy crap guys come on we bait for bears and no body whines about it. Hell we bait for fish, Great buck and congrats to the hunter.

uhunt, bullsizz, most of you couldnt find an apple in the store with out asking for help, .and thats a fact jack.

I dont care if it was 500",if you have to use bait to get it done Im not impressed in the least.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-03-12 AT 05:52PM (MST)[p]So let me ask all you guys out there a question. What the haydes is the difference in putting up a bunch of cameras like a lot of you do at waterholes, finding and patterning a good buck with them, and then sitting on that certain waterhole where you know he's coming in regularly to wack him or doing it when he comes in to some apples? Please only serious answers, as this is a serious question to those who are giving this guy a hard time! Baiting is legal here in MI for deer, but I don't do it. However, I don't make a fuss about those that do if it's legal like this thread is doing to this poor guy!

Everybody knows the answer to that
Hell Sakes,
not only do they want a shot while they drink,if they miss, they want a shot at them on the way out while eating their dessert

LAST EDITED ON Sep-04-12 AT 06:29PM (MST)[p]What an awesome deer! Congrats to hunter and guide. Not trying to start an arguement but I got an honest question for never_catch. What is the difference between a hunter using apples and you using your homemade water trough that has a salt block and mineral lick next to it. In my opinion they are both artificial attractants. Both are used to bring deer to a specific area for the purpose of making a buck easier to see and pattern, or am I wrong?

Apples or no apples and cams or no cams and mineral blocks or no mineral blocks, im very impressed. What a jackhammer of a buck. As long as its legal who cares!! What's funny is everyone concentrates on the apples and ignores how much work and time it takes to even find a deer like that, and who cares who found it anyways. I'm sure that most of the nay sayers on hear wouldnt go after a deer like that if one of their friends found it, ya right. Also i would bet that just about everyone on here would employ every tactic at their disposal to harvest him, legally of course. I would be damm proud of that deer if i shot him, even if it was on apples. Whats the diff between sitting apples or water, cause the deer need water far more than they need apples. Those of you that think baiting is easy , go out and throw a 1000 dollars worth of apples out in your best spots and watch and see how hit and miss any bait is in the west, not including texas, lol. Finding that deer is a tremedous achievement. Congrats to the hunter.
