I shot the buck on the left on August 25, 2012 and my taxidermist had him finished on October 15! It is nice when you don't have to wait an entire year to get an animal back.

Awesome bucks and awesome mounts. I love the looks of that wall, three nice velvet bucks you cant beat that

It is all the original velvet. The buck on the far right was shot on Labor Day in 2007 and was within days of stripping, so his velvet is not in as good of shape as the other two. The other two had a few tears from falling but overall the velvet remained in great shape.

Sorry about the 20 questions, but did you treat the velvet right after you shot it? I'm just curious because I do alot of backcountry bow hunting and even though I am yet to kill a trophy I was wondering how long I had to get the horns out before the velvet went bad? Those mounts look pretty sharp by the way.

No worries on the questions. I know there are a lot of differing opinions on treating velvet. My taxidermist prefers me to just get them to a freezer as soon as possible and then I take them to him and he injects them for me. I have been able to have the deer caped and down to a freezer within 4-6 hours of killing each of them. Getting the animal into the shade will increase the time you have obviously before it will start to go bad. I have had to drive with the antlers for 5-6 hours and I just buy dry ice and put it in a garbage sack with the antlers to keep them as frozen as possible. I wish I had better information for you, but this has been my experience.

Great looking wall.

That is an awesome collection. Someday I hope to have some velvet bucks on the wall like that. Who does your taxidermy?

Thanks for all the nice comments everyone. Yes, they are all archery kills. These bucks were killed in '07, '09, and '12 in Utah on OTC tags. I love the archery opportunities Utah has! Travis Evans is my taxidermist and his company name is Trophy Technologies Taxidermy.
